Breakout into Committees.The group split into four committees - Program, PR and Recruitment, Logistics, andOutcomes and Follow-up. After 30 minutes of committee brainstorming, the groupreconvened for committee reports. The general consensus is that there is a lot of workto do!A. Program - Michelle Reagan reported that the program committee agreed that aHead Start classroom should be one of the sites visited. Beyond that thecommittee was not able to agree on other sites and felt the need for more inputfrom the larger group to identify sites and the message of the CWVP in Wichita.The committee also felt a need to coordinate with the logistics committee.B. PR and Recruitment - Jude Langhurst reported that Connie was veryhelpful to this committee in looking at how other groups attract people. TheCEO is very difficult to attract. Collaborators will be asked to contact VIP's inthe corporate world whom they know and ask the VIP's to contact their peers inmanufacturing, finance, health, and legal services.For names of religious leaders, the committee will ask Inter-Faith Ministries.The committee also hopes to get some help from Carol Rupe whose husband isthe current president of United Way, which has an established "loaned exec"program.Jude asked the program committee to keep the legislative calendar in mind whenplanning dates for the CWVP.The committee already has some ideas about stationery.permission to use the Children's Defense Fund logo.They are seekingPatty said that the names of corporate, elected, and religious leaders turned in atthe last meeting will be given to the PR committee and that any other suggestionsshould be given to Jude.C. Logistics - Ellen Myers reported that much of the work of this committee cannotbe accomplished until we know the date and size of the group going through theCWVP. The committee has a list of possible sites for the training and ofagencies and businesses to contact regarding transportation.Jane Murphy volunteered to investigate setting up a bookkeeping system forCWVP.14
Jim Garner has agreed to handle mailings for CWVP. The Logistics committeewill draft confirmation letters to the sites and the briefers using the examples inmaterial from Sharon Ladin and get the letters and a inailing list to Jim.D. Outcomes and Follow-up - Elizabeth Jackson reported that Debbie Youngsuggested that hand-written "thank you" notes go to all of the CWVP participantsand that the committee would ask for all collaborators to help with that.The committee will develop evaluation forms using materials from Sharon Ladinas guides. These will probably be in a pre-testlpost-test format using statisticsmainly from Sedgwick County, with some from Kansas and the nation.The committee will follow-up the CWVP with telephone calls to all theparticipants. Other foIIow-up activities will depend on the type of program weactually do, but there will definitely be on-going communication with participantsafter the event.E. Michelle Reagan asked for suggestions from the group for sites to visit. Amongthose mentioned were: Head Start classroom, Wichita Children's Home, aprivate or church day care facility, a health care facility, a kindergartenclassroom, a special education class, a neo-natal intensive care unit. Thediscussion again raised the questions of what is the message and what is the bestway to get the message across. Again no conclusions were reached about definitesites. Jude said the PR committee was considering a motto to focus thecampaign, "Quality child care keeps Kansas working." Elizabeth suggested thatindividuals submit suggestions for sites to the program committee. The programcommittee decided to hold another meeting before the next general meeting ofcollaborators. Anyone interested in helping with program's responsibilities iswelcome to attend.
