Cat ®Center-Lock Pin Grabber CouplerHYDRAULIC EXCAVATORSFEATURES:All the Convenience of a Pin Grabber Coupler• Pin grabber couplers allow work tools to be changed quickly —improving overall production and increasing machine versatility.Coupler is pinned on in place of the bucket using standard pinsand allows one machine to be used for multiple tasks on thejob site.• Cat ® Center-Lock TM Pin Grabber Coupler is built around thesame interface as previous pin grabber couplers and willengage and disengage virtually any Cat bucket or work toolequipped with pins. The key difference is the patent pendinglocking mechanism integrated into Center-Lock.Confident, Secure Operation• Cat Center-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler gives operators confidencethough its locking system and visible lockingmechanism. At the heart of the Center-Lock is ”Over-CenterLocking Technology.” This technology — very similar to Vise-Grip ® locking pliers — uses proven principles of physics to keepthe coupler locked tight.• Once Center-Lock has engaged a work tool, the lock is sosecure it will stay locked — even in the event of hydraulicfailure. Should a pin be inadvertently missed while engaging awork tool, either coupler hook is strong enough to hold the fullweight of the work tool on it’s own.Improved Productivity• Center-Lock is easy to operate, regardless of operator skill level, and it is easier to train new operators to use. The ability to seewhen the coupler is open, or closed, makes it intuitive to use,and saves time each time a tool is changed.• Because engaging the locking mechanism in Center-Lock doesnot require gravity to actuate — there is no need to boomin, stick up, and invert the attachment to lock on. Simplifiedoperation allows quicker tool change regardless of boom orstick position. And, it is possible to engage and disengage worktools in limited overhead situations.Broad Compatibility• Available for 311-385 Hydraulic Excavators.• Picks up virtually any Cat bucket or work tool with pins. Alsocompatible with a wide range of non-Cat buckets.Easy to Maintain• Straightforward design requires only daily greasing to maintain.• No external or internal locking bars, springs or other loose parts.• Connector lines are routed through the coupler to protect hosesfrom damage.• The physical locking mechanism is backed up by positive“always on” hydraulic pressure, and a counter balance valveon the cylinder together provide additional layers of lockingprotection.• The lock on the front pin of the work tool is clearly visible tothe operator, always showing the status of the coupler: open orclosed. This gives the operator confidence a tool is engaged, and makes changing tools faster. Those on the job site withinview of the secondary lock can also be reassured the coupler isengaged and locked tight on to the tool.

Cat Center-Lock Pin Grabber CouplerThe solution is obvious: Over-Center TechnologyImproved Pin Grabber CouplerCenter-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler engages and disengages tools in a similar fashion to other pin grabber couplers. The difference withthis coupler is found in the patent pending locking mechanism inside the coupler.Cylinder walls are much thicker andthe diameter of the cylinder itselfis much larger — giving increasedclosing power and resistance toextreme forces.A highly visible Secondary Lockclearly shows an operator when thecoupler is locked on to the pin of abucket or work tool.Visibility gives confidence to maketool changes quickly and safely —saving time with every tool change. And, the Secondary Lock has thestrength to hold the full weight of abucket if a back pin is missed whenengaging the attachment.Hydraulic pressure pushes theCenter-Lock Rocker into place andkeeps the Secondary Lock securelylocked over the front bucket pin. Evenin the event of hydraulic failure thecoupler stays locked on to the pin.Counterbalance Valveand positively pressurizedhydraulics assure thecoupler is locked on to thework tool.Primary Hook graspsthe back bucket pinand tightly secures thework tool.Over-Center Technology: Once thelocking mechanism passes overcenter, the Secondary Lock is heldfirmly over the front bucket pin. Justlike the jaws on a set of lockingpliers, the secondary lock holds, andit takes a specific action to releasethe lock.Coupler: Unlocked2 Cat Center-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler

Cat Center-Lock Pin Grabber CouplerHow Over-CenterTechnology Works• Over-Center locking is found only inCenter-Lock Pin Grabber Couplers. Thistechnology works on the same principleas a set of Vise-Grip ® locking pliers.• As you squeeze the handles to closethe jaws of locking pliers you will noticesome resistance until just past halfway. Then, the jaws just seem to snap shutautomatically. This is the over centerlock taking place. Once locked, the onlyway to release the jaws is to take deliberate, specific action. Pulling and pryingon the handles simply will not releasethe lock.• Once the lock is engaged in theCenter-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler — theoperator can only unlock the coupler bymoving a switch in the cab and curlingthe bucket. Any forces applied fromeither bucket pin will only cause theover center lock to close even tighter.Engage & Disengage Tools in Limited Overhead SituationsThere is no need to boomin, stick up and invertthe attachment to unlockCenter-Lock. Simplifiedoperation allows attachmentsto be engaged anddisengaged in limitedoverhead conditions suchas under bridge decksand power lines.Unlocking Center-LockUnlocking a traditional pin grabber couplerVisible Secondary LockThe lock on the front pin of theattachment is clearly visible tothe operator — always showingthe status of the coupler: open orclosed.Cat Center-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler 3

Reduces amount of beddingmaterial needed when running long utility lines, especially inhard ground.Standard CouplerTrenching Coupler• Trenching couplers are narrower in width from standard linkagecouplers at the point where it pins to the machine. Pin bossesare narrower and stick pins are shorter than standard. They arefully compatible with same buckets and tools as standard linkagecouplers.• Trenching couplers and buckets are available for machineswith CB-, DB- and TB-linkages (324-345 excavators).Couplers for Trenching ApplicationsCouplerBucket WidthLinkage works with mm (in)CB 610 (24)DB* 762 (30)TB 762 (30)*Standard coupler is the minimum sizeacceptable in trenching situations for thismachine size class.Trenching couplers keep thewidest part of the couplerinside the digging width ofa trenching bucket — keepingthe trench narrow and reducingthe amount of bedding materialrequired.Center-Lock Clamping SpacersCaterpillar has a better solution to multiple shims!• Clamping spacers easily ”fill the gap” when the face spread ofa tool is much wider than the coupler — keeping the attachmentcentered on the coupler. Wide, solid clamping spacerseliminate the need to stack thin shims on the front pin andtherefore, eliminate the potential for damaged shims, andthe need to weld multiple shims together.• Center-Lock Clamping Spacer system consists of twosolid steel spacers and two locking rings which fiton the front pin. Once set, the spacers stay locked inplace.• Solid steel construction makes them tough enough towithstand frequent coupling and uncouplingof tools.• Clamping Spacers are availablewith several different insidedimensions (from 65.5mm to110.5mm) and thicknesses(from 14mm to 30mm). Theyare designed to work with themost popular sizes of bucketpins on small, medium and largeexcavators.Cat Center-Lock Pin Grabber Coupler 5
