Rajam, Coordinator419-A Creative Arts CenterNature of ProgramThe interdepartmental major in art history gives an interdisciplinary approach tothe study of objects of art: their manufacture, their use, and the civilizations and modesof thought that produced them. This program provides a systematic foundation in thehistory of art of the western world. Students are encouraged to add a broad backgroundfrom selected courses in art, business and economics, English, foreignlanguages, history, humanities, journalism, library science, music, philosophy, publicadministration, religious studies, sociology and anthropology, or theatre. A seniorresearch project, on an approved topic selected by the student, is completed duringthe last semester. Quinlan, Associate ChairpersonNature of ProgramThe Bachelor of Arts with a major in biology prepares students for professionalcareers in the life sciences. As a biology major, a student will choose courses fromthree major areas: ecology and evolution; cellular and molecular biology; or animal andplant physiology, anatomy, and development. In the available courses, students willexperience a wide variety of classroom environments: the typical large lecture section,small group discussions, and intensive, laboratory-oriented courses. These laboratorycourses include plant ecology, population biology, recombinant DNA technology,cellular/molecular biology methods as well as lab experiences in other biologicaldisciplines.Required courses and electives provide a solid foundation for graduate study inmany of the specialized biological disciplines, for professional study in medicine,dentistry, or other health-related sciences, or for technical careers in government orprivate industry.Admission RequirementsIn addition to college requirements, admission to the program requires a 2.0overall grade-point average and at least a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 for courses inbiology. To maintain biology major status and graduate, students must maintain atleast a 2.0 cumulative average for biology courses at WVU.Degree RequirementsThe Bachelor of Arts with a major in biology requires a minimum of 31 hours to amaximum of 42 hours in biology, with 128 hours required for graduation.Required courses include Biology 15, 17, 19, and 21, which must be taken in thissequence; Chemistry 15 or 17, which must be taken concurrently with Biology 15;Biology 93
