Bammel, Recreation & Parks CoordinatorDegreesBachelor of ScienceBachelor of Science in ForestryBachelor of Science in RecreationPrograms of StudyIf you are interested in natural resources and the out-of-doors, you may beinterested in one of the four curricula offered by the Division of Forestry. Those includeforest resources management, recreation and parks management, wildlife resources,and wood industries. If you wish to be admitted to our division but are unsure aboutyour major, you can be admitted to the general forestry curriculum with a facultymember to advise you until a program major has been selected. If you have chosen aprogram major, you will be admitted directly to the major and be assigned a facultyadviser at your first registration.Our division, which has excellent facilities, is located in Percival Hall on theEvansdale Campus in close proximity to the Evansdale Library and the TowersResidence Halls. Available physical space totals 40,412 square feet, of which 33,587is lecture, seminar room, and teaching and research laboratories. The remainingportion is office space for faculty, graduate students and staff. In addition, 10,400acres of forested tracts including the 7,000 acre <strong>University</strong> Forest located near thecampus which we manage are used as extensive outdoor laboratories.Transfer Credits for Professional CoursesIf you are a transfer student entering the Division of Forestry from a oneortwo-year technical school or from a four-year unaccredited forestry school, you musttake an advanced standing examination to demonstrate proficiency in any requiredprofessional course offered by the Division of Forestry for which transfer credit issought. This rule also applies to courses in dendrology and surveying. Advancedstanding examinations are given after you have enrolled in the Division of Forestry. Allother credits are accepted subject to the regulations of the Office of Admissions andRecords regarding transfer of credits.Bachelor of Science in ForestryForest Resources Management CurriculumThis curriculum is designed to prepare you for a career in management offorest land and associated resources. In forestry, we face growing demands for woodproducts, along with increasing public consciousness of the value of wildlands forrecreation, wildlife habitat, watershed protection, aesthetics, and environmentalprotection. Our curriculum is designed to train you in a balanced approach to forestmanagement. The major emphasis is on management and utilization of timberresources, but we also orient you to management of forests for recreation, wildlife, andwater. We also stress the importance of forest climate, environmental protection, andaesthetic qualities in forest management.Curriculum StructureWe require you to complete 138 credit hours of coursework. Required coursesinclude biological, physical, and social sciences, English composition and communication,mathematics, forest science and management, and liberal studies.
