.Course DescriptionsAccounting (Acctg.)To enroll in any upper-division, undergraduate business course offered by theCollege of Business and Economics, an undergraduate student must have completedthese prerequisite courses: six hours of principles of economics; six hours of principlesof accounting; three hours of statistics, Math. 28 or Math. 14; and three hours ofcalculus (Math. 128 or Math. 15); and have a 2.5 GPA. In addition, the student musthave successfully completed six hours of composition and rhetoric. Exceptions to thispolicy must be approved by the chairperson of the department offering the course.51 Principles of Accounting. 3 hr. PR: Sophomore standing. The accounting cyclefrom the analysis of business transactions through the preparation of financialstatements; basic theory and practice with respect to accounting for assets andequities.52. Principles of Accounting. 3 hr. PR: Acctg. 51. Utilization of accounting informationfor purposes of managerial control and decision making; cost concepts, profit andfinancial budgeting, analysis of financial statements.1 1 1 .Intermediate Accounting. 3 hr. PR: Grade of A or B in Acctg. 52. Development ofaccounting theory and practice, with emphasis on asset accounting.1 12. Intermediate Accounting. 3 hr. Overviewand survey of Federal income tax principles for individuals and simple corporationswith emphasis on gross income, exemptions, deductions, capital gains and losses,and tax credits.214. Income Tax Accounting. 3 hr. PR: Acctg. 213 or consent. The study of Federalincome tax treatment of partnerships, corporations and estates, and the treatment ofthose property transfers subject to the Federal Gift Tax, together with an introductionto tax research and tax procedure.306 Accounting Courses
