Chair; Theatre design.Degree Offered:Bachelor of Fine ArtsAccreditationThe Division of Theatre and its programs areAssociation of Schools of Theatre (NAST).fully accredited by the NationalNature of ProgramThe Division of Theatre offers an intensive training program for the student whoseeks artistic growth and development. The four-year course of study, leading to theBachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree, is designed for those students who intend topursue professional theatre careers, as well as those who may enter other fields wheretheatre skills are desirable.The theatre major may choose from among several different areas of emphasis,each of which provides a well-rounded knowledge of the art as well as an opportunityto specialize. The various curricula combine formal classes in theory with practicalapplication and experience in the Division's theatre, studio, and shop areas.PerformancesThe Division annually produces five major productions as well as laboratoryperformances in its three performance areas: Concert Theatre, Studio Theatre, andClassroom Theatre. These productions provide practical experience for theatrestudents and serve as a cultural outlet for the community.Young People's Theatre: Theatre majors, under the direction of a faculty member,operate a complete puppet theatre program. The Division's Puppet Mobile tours thestate from September through April. Creative dramatics and children's theatre are alsooffered.Bachelor of Fine Arts in TheatreUpon entrance, the student must comply with the general regulations of the<strong>University</strong> concerning degrees, satisfy all entrance and divisional requirements, andcomplete one of the curricula of the Division of Theatre with a 2.0 (C) grade-pointaverage.For admission to the junior year of the Division of Theatre, a student must haveestablished a 2.0 (C) grade-point average. Transfer students must establish transfercredit from other institutions during the first semester in which they are enrolled in theDivision of Theatre.Students are responsible for correctly fulfilling all requirements. Each studentshould review the course requirements both before and after every registration periodso that errors or omissions will be detected immediately.Theatre CurriculaStudents may select an area of emphasis in acting, design and technicaltheatre, playwriting/directing/stage management, or creative dramatics/puppetry.Graduates of the Division of Theatre are employed in the professional theatre, radio,television, and film. Others have chosen careers in fashion design, commercial sales,makeup, lighting design, and installation, law and positions in the public arena.Undergraduates are frequently offered graduate student positions with leading<strong>University</strong> training programs offering MFA study.1 94 College of Creative Arts
