Publiceconomics, Econometrics.Degree OfferedBachelor of Science in EconomicsEconomics Program ObjectivesThe Department of Economics offers courses designed to prepare thestudent for work in government and industry, for additional study in economics at thegraduate level, and for professional studies in areas such as law, business administration,and public administration.Economics Program RequirementsStudents applying or reapplying for initial admission to the College mustcomplete 58 or more credit hours, attain a 2.5 or better cumulative grade-pointaverage, and must complete each of the following courses with a C or better: six hoursof principles of economics; six hours of accounting principles; three hours of statistics;and Mathematics 128 or Mathematics 15. In addition, students must successfullycomplete English 1 and 2 before entering the College.The foregoing are minimum requirements. All students who meet the specificrequirements cannot be guaranteed admission to the college. Limitations on admissionsmay be necessary because of limits imposed by the size of the faculty, othereducational resources, and of classroom space.Students seeking admission to the college must submit a formal application, whichis reviewed by a college official to determine eligibility and acceptability of the applicant.Upon admission to the college, students interested in the B.S. in Economicsdegree should contact the Department of Economics to request a faculty adviser.Students who major in economics must complete 62 credit hours in non- economicsand non-business courses. These shall consist of WVU Liberal Studies Programcourses and elective courses.For graduation, economics majors must attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0for all economics courses, computed using the last grade earned in each economicscourse. Economics majors are required to have a grade of C or better in Economics21 1 and Economics 212.Economics majors may take a maximum of nine of their 33 credit-hours ineconomics out of residence. Transfer students must take a minimum of 15 credit-hoursof upper-division economics in residence. The undergraduate adviser can waive thisrequirement under special circumstances.Requirements Hrs.
