The program offers basic preparation for studentsinterested in graduate work leading to a career in basic or applied psychology. Italso possible to prepare for a career as a bachelor's-level psychological assistant ortechnician, or for work in related social science fields. Undergraduate training inpsychology emphasizes a broad liberal arts education. Excessive specialization inpsychology is discouraged, particularly for students who intend to pursue graduatetraining in psychology. Such students should seek a strong supporting background inmathematics and the natural and social sciences.Degree RequirementsRequired Courses: Psych. 1, 2, 19, 131, 141, 151, 171, 218; one course from thefollowing group: Psych. 223, 224, 225, 232; six credit hours of 200-level psychologycourses excluding Psych. 213 and 218; and Stat. 101 or Econ. 125.Thirty-two credit hours are required for a major in psychology.OptionsStudents who major in psychology should consider three options. Thoseprimarily interested in the professional application of psychological principles to humanproblems should select courses from the following group: Psych. 251 , 262, 263, 264,274, 279, 281 , 282. Students primarily interested in graduate training in psychologyshould consider taking additional courses in the Psych. 223, 224, 225, and 232 series.Students interested in psychology as it applies to their personal and social developmentare encouraged to take Psych. 164 and 170.All psychology majors are encouraged to consider upper-division courses whichprovide an opportunity for them to apply basic principles of psychology. Recommendedfor this purpose are Psych. 190, 194, and 213. Students must obtain instructors'consent before enrolling in these courses.isPsychobgy 1 35
