How many ugly things You haveconcealed. How many burdensome tribulations You haveabolished! (29)äüjøû Êøø†öÇöeôåõæ» †öÓ» Úø à» ÚôùÜ» Òøæø äüjøn»Îø æ$ …õ^%øÂô à» Úô Ü» Òø æøAnd how many stumbles You have prevented, andhow many ordeals You have repelled! (30)äüiø†»ø Þø äüÖ$ ¡÷â» ]ø köŠ» Ö$ Øõ n»Ûô qøðõ«ßø$ø à» Úô Ü» Òø æøAnd how much beautiful praise, for which I wasunworthy, You have broadcasted*. (31)o» Öô^uøðöç» ‰öo» eô ½ø †øÊ»]ø æø pô,¡ø? eø Üø ¿ö Âø Ü$ `ö ×Ö# ]øO' <strong>Allah</strong>, my tribulation is tremendous, mywretchedness* is excessive, (32)o» Öô ¡øÆ» ]ø o» eô l» ‚ø ÃøÎø æø o» Öô^Ûø » ]ø o» eô l» †ø’ö Îø æømy acts are inadequate and my fetters have tiedme down, (33)^nøÞ»‚% Ö] o» ßôj»Âø ‚øìøæø o» Öô^Úø ! ‚ö ûeö o» ÃôË» Þø]øà» Âø o» ßôŠø føuømy far-fetched hopes have held me back from my gain, and this worldwith its delusions, (34)pô,«Âø öÔøo» Öô^_ø Úô æø ^ ãø jôÞø ^nøíô eô o» Šô Ë» Þø æømy soul* with its betrayal*, and myprocrastination* have deceived me. (35)ß»Âøgørö v» mø Ÿ$ á» ]ø Ôøiôˆ$Ãôeô Ôø×öòø‰» ^Ê ø p» ‚ô n ô ù‰øO' my Master! So I ask You by Your might, not to let my evil (36)works and acts veil my supplication from You,^møæø


p»køû ×ø›$] ^Úø oôù Ëôíø eô o» ßôv» –ø Ë» iø Ÿøæø o» Öô^ÃøÊô æø o» ×ôÛø Âø ðöç» ‰öp» †ôù‰ô à» Úô äôn»×øÂønot to disgrace me with what is hidden*, <strong>of</strong> what You know <strong>of</strong>my secrets, (37)o» iô]çø ×øìøo» Êô äüjö×»Ûô Âø ^Úø oF ×Âø èôeøç» ÏöÃöÖ»^eô o» ßô×»qô ^Ãøiö Ÿøæøand not to hasten me to punishment for what I have donein private: (38)o» jôÖø ^ãø qøæø o» _ô m»†ôË» iø Ýô]æø ø æø o» iô ðø«‰ø ]ô æø o» ×ôû Êô ðôç, ‰öà» ÚôMy evil act in secrecy, my misdeeds, my continuous negligence,my ignorance, (39)o» Êô o$ ×øÂø æ$^Ê÷æ.…ø†ôÚ» ]øo» jô×øË» Æø æø o» iô]çø ãø ø éô†ø%»Òømy manifold passions and myheedlessness*. (40)^ãø ×ôùÒö Ùô ]çø u» Ÿ»] ø oÊô o» Öô Ôø^Ê÷ç» _ö Âø …ôç» Úö öŸ»] Ä ô n»Ûô qøæøiôˆ$Ãôeô Ü$ `ö ×Ö#]àô Òö æøAnd by Your Honor*, O' <strong>Allah</strong>, be kind to me in all states, and begracious to me in all affairs! (41)o» Êô †ø¿ø ß$Ö]æøp»†ôù•öÌø»Òøäü×öòø‰» ø] Õø†ön»Æø o» Öô à» Úø o» eôù…ø æø o» ãô ÖF ]ôMy <strong>God</strong> and my Lord, who do I Have besides* You from whom to ask forremoval <strong>of</strong> my affliction, and regard for my affairs. (42)Õøpø Ÿøç» Úø æø o» ãÖF ]ôMy <strong>God</strong> and my Master*. (43)o» Šô Ë» Þø p]çF âø äôn»Êô kö û føi$] ôá ^Û÷ Ó» uö o$ ×øÂø kø m»†øq» ]ø*You decreed a law for me, but I followed <strong>the</strong> lowlydesires <strong>of</strong> my soul*, (44)p» æôù ‚ö Âø àô n» ô môˆ» iø à» Úô äô n» Êô Œ» †ôjøu» ]ø Ü» Öø æøand did not remain wary <strong>of</strong> adorning my enemy (45)ðö«–ø ÏøÖ»] ÔøÖô]ƒø oF ×Âø åü‚ø Ãø‰» ]øæø pF çø â» ]ø ^Ûø eô o» Þô†$ÇøÊøSo, he deluded me through my soul's caprice, and<strong>the</strong>rein fate* favored him (46)ôæ» ‚ö uö˜øû eø ÔøÖô]ƒø à» Úô o$ ×øÂø pF †øqø^Ûø eô lö‡» æø ^røSo in what was put into effect upon me in that situation, Itransgressed some <strong>of</strong> Your statutes, (47)jöÊø


Ôø^Ê÷†ôjøû ÚöÖô]ƒø Ä ô n»Ûô qøo» Êø o$ ×øÂø èör$ vö Ö»] Ôø×øÊø Õø†ôÚô]æø ]ø˜øû eøköË» Öø^ìøand I disobeyed some <strong>of</strong> Your commands. So, Yours is <strong>the</strong> pro<strong>of</strong>*against me in all that (48)o» Šô Ë» ÞøÕøæ.«–ø Îø äôn»Êô o$ ×øÂø pF†øqø^Ûø n»Êô o» Öô èør$uöŸøæøand I have no argument against Your judgement*on me, (49)Õøæ. ¡øeø ?æøÔøÛö Ó» uöo» ßôÚøˆøÖ»]ø æønor in what Your decree and Yourtribulation imposed upon me. (56)o» Þô‚ø eø Ìø û •ø Ü» uø …» ] hôù …ø ^møMy Lord, have Mercy upon <strong>the</strong>weakness <strong>of</strong> my body, (57)o» Ûô ¿» Âø èø Î$ ô æøp» ‚ô ×»qô èøÎ$ …ô æø<strong>the</strong> thinness <strong>of</strong> my skin and <strong>the</strong>frailty <strong>of</strong> my bones. o» jômø„ô Ç» iøæø p» †ôùeô æø o» jônøeô†» iø æø p» †ôÒ» ƒôæø o» Ïô×»ìø ]*‚ø eø Ýà»Úø ^ø mO' You, who gave rise to my creation, to my remembrance,to my nurturing, to goodness towards me,and to my nourishment*; (59)o» eô Õø †ôùeô Ìô Öô^‰ø æø Ôø Úô†øÒø ðô‚ø jôe» Ÿô ô o» ßôf» âøbestow upon me for <strong>the</strong> sake <strong>of</strong> Your having givenrise (to me) with generosity, and Your previousgoodness to me! Can You see Yourself tormenting mewith Your fire, after I have pr<strong>of</strong>essed Your Unity?ÔøfôùuöÔøjôÊø†ôû Úø à» Úô o» fô×»Îø äôn»×øÂø pçF _ø Þ»]^Úø ‚ø û eø æøAfter <strong>the</strong> knowledge <strong>of</strong> You that my heart hasembraced, (62)à» Úô p» †ôn»Ûô •øåü‚ø Ïøjø» ]æøÕø†ôÒ» ƒô à» Úô o» Þô^Šø Öô ä´ eô sø ãô Öø æøYour remembrance which my tongue has constantly mentioned,and Your love to which my mind has clung? (63)Ôøjôn$eôç» eö†öÖô ^Ã÷•ô^ìøo» ñô«Âø öæø o» Êô]†øjô» ] Ñô ‚» ‘ô‚ø û eø æøAfter <strong>the</strong> sincerity <strong>of</strong> my confession and sincerity* <strong>of</strong> mysupplication, humble before Your Lordship. (64)äüjøn»e$…$ à» ÚøÄø n ô ù–ø iö á» ]ø à» Úô Ýö†øÒ» ]ø køÞ»]ø lø ^ãø n»âøFar be it*, You are more noble* than that You wouldsquander him whom You have nurtured, (65)ø †ôùø iö æ» ]ø äüjøn»Þø» ]ø à» Úø ‚ø Ãôùføiö »æ]øäüjøm»æø ! à» Úøor distance* him whom You have brought near*,or drive away him whom You havesheltered*, (66)äü jøÛ» uô …øæø äü jøn»ËøÒø à» Úø ðô ¡øføÖ»] ? oÖø ]ô Üø ×ôùŠø iö æ» ]øor submit to tribulation, him whom You have sparedand shown mercy. (67)pø Ÿøç» Úø æø o» ãô ÖF ]ô æø p» ‚ô n ô ù‰ø ^mø p» †ôû ô køn»Öø æøWould that I knew, my Master, my <strong>God</strong> and myProtector, (68)


è÷uø ô^Úøé÷‚ø qô ^‰øÔøjôÛø ¿ø ÃøÖô l»†$ìøåõç» qö æö 1F ×Âø …ø^ß$Ö] ¼ö ×ôùŠø iö]øwould You give <strong>the</strong> fire control* over faces that have fallendown prostrate in front <strong>of</strong> Your exaltedness*, (69)Õø†ôÓ» ö eô æ$è÷Îøô^‘øÕø‚ô n»uô ç» jøeô k»Ïø_ø Þ$ àõ Šö Ö»]ø oF×Âø æøand over tongues voicing sincerely <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> Your Oneness*,and giving thanks to You in praise, (70)è÷Ãøô ^ìøè÷ ÏøÏôùvø Úö Ôø jôn$ãô ÖF ^ô eô k» Êø†øjø » ] áôhô ç» ×ö Îö 1F × Âø æ$and hearts acknowledging Your Divinity by affirmation*, (71)l»…ø^‘øoFj$uøÔøeô Üô ×»ÃôÖ»] àø Úô l» çø uø†øñô«Ûø •øand minds encompassing knowledge <strong>of</strong> You until <strong>the</strong>y havebecome humble, (72)è÷ Ãøñô«›ø Õø ‚ô f%Ãøiø á ô ^›ø æ» ] ø oF Ö]ô k» Ãø ‰ø |ø …ô]çø qø 1F ×Âø æ$and bodily members speeding to <strong>the</strong> places <strong>of</strong> Your worshipin obedience, (73)è÷ßøÂô „»ÚöÕø…ô^ËøÇ» jô‰» ^ôeô l» …ø^ø ]ø æ$and seeking* Your forgiveness insubmission. (74)ÔøÜö m»†ôÒø ^mø Ôøeô à% ¿$ Ö]]„ø Óø âF ^Ú$No such opinion is heldabout You! (75)ß»ÂøÔø×ô–» Ëøeô ^Þø†» fôì»]ö ŸøæøNor have we been informed* about You, (76)thanks to Your bounty, O' All-generous.^ãøiô^eøç» ÏöÂö æø ^nøÞ»‚% Ö] ðô ¡øeø ? Ýà»Úôù Øõ n»×ôÎø à» Âø o» Ëôû •ø Üö ×øû iø kø Þ»]ø æø hôù …ø ^møMy Lord, You know my weakness facing a little <strong>of</strong> this world's tribulationsand its punishments (77)^ãø ×ôâ»]ø 1F ×Âø å´ …ô^Óø Ûø Ö»] àø Úô ^ãø n»Êô p» †ôr» mø ^Úø æøand facing* in it <strong>the</strong> ordeals which befall itsinhabitants, (78)äü iö‚$ Ú% †ºn»’ô Îø åüæ.«Ïøeø ݆º n»Šô mø äü %öÓ» Ú$ غ n»×ô Îø åºæ» †öÓ» Úø æ$ 𺠡øeø ? Ôø Öô]ƒø á$ ]ø oF × Âøeven though that is a tribulation and ordeal whose stay is short, whose existence*is but little, and whose duration* is but fleeting. (79)oF×Âøæ$
