The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 17 April 2013Young volunteers celebrate scout hut revampReport by Danielle ThompsonPRINCE’S Trust volunteers have been busyrefurbishing the Scout Headquarters inLathom.The volunteers are young people fromaround Ormskirk who want to make adifference to their local community and arecompleting a Prince’s Trust Team 12–weekprogramme with West Lancashire College,which aims to give them the skills andconfidence to find a job.The Trust aims to give young people achance to turn their lives around and threein four young people on Prince’s Trustschemes move into work, education ortraining.The 13 young people have been working onthe Scouts headquarters, also used by the30th Ormskirk Scout Group, for two weeks.They have cleaned the building andsurrounding area, painted the main hall,corridors and entrance hall and plantedbulbs in the garden area at the front of thebuilding.They raised funds by bag packing inMorrisons in Ormskirk on Monday March 25to complete the project.Tony Charnock, chairman of OrmskirkDistrict Scouts, was proud to cut the ribbonduring the handover and praised theirefforts.He said: “All the young people should bevery proud of themselves for the amount ofwork they have carried out during the twoweeks.”Tony Charnock, chairman of Ormskirk District Scouts.
