90An <strong><strong>in</strong>vestigation</strong> <strong>in</strong>to the <strong>domestic</strong> <strong>laundry</strong> <strong>habits</strong> <strong>in</strong> EuropeNo Bacillus <strong>an</strong>d no Staphylococcus aureus were found after wash<strong>in</strong>g <strong>an</strong>dhardly <strong>an</strong>y yeasts or fungi were found.The Netherl<strong>an</strong>dsThe two most common wash<strong>in</strong>g processes <strong>in</strong> the Netherl<strong>an</strong>ds are a 40°C cottonprogramme us<strong>in</strong>g a compact powder without bleach <strong>an</strong>d a 60°C cottonprogramme also us<strong>in</strong>g a compact powder but with bleach<strong>in</strong>g agents. The most<strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g results are summarised <strong>in</strong> graphs 4.13, 4.14 <strong>an</strong>d 4.15. A signific<strong>an</strong>tdifference is found between before <strong>an</strong>d after wash<strong>in</strong>g (ANOVA-One Way, α= 0.05): the <strong>laundry</strong> is hygienically cle<strong>an</strong>er after wash<strong>in</strong>g. The Total PlateCount <strong>of</strong> the Dutch wash<strong>in</strong>g processes is comparable to the situation <strong>in</strong>Greece <strong>an</strong>d Norway. In the Netherl<strong>an</strong>ds, a signific<strong>an</strong>t difference is found betweenthe 40°C <strong>an</strong>d the 60°C programme (ANOVA/One Way, α = 0). Thespread <strong>of</strong> micro-org<strong>an</strong>isms is shown <strong>in</strong> graph 4.14. Before wash<strong>in</strong>g, the Enterobacteriaceaewere found only on the diaper <strong>an</strong>d the dishcloth, but afterwash<strong>in</strong>g at 40°C they were found on all <strong>laundry</strong> items <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the sterilesample.
