2 Assessment <strong>of</strong> the consumer <strong>laundry</strong><strong>habits</strong> - a qu<strong>an</strong>titative surveyRagnhild Brusdal2.1 Data collection <strong>an</strong>d data material2.1.1 The dataFour countries participated <strong>in</strong> the survey, all selected for different reasons asdescribed earlier. A draft questionnaire was drawn up <strong>in</strong> Norway <strong>an</strong>d discussedwith the other countries <strong>in</strong>volved, <strong>an</strong>d the necessary corrections <strong>an</strong>dch<strong>an</strong>ges were made. The questionnaire was written <strong>in</strong> English <strong>an</strong>d later tr<strong>an</strong>slatedto the local l<strong>an</strong>guages <strong>in</strong> collaboration between <strong>SIFO</strong> <strong>an</strong>d the affiliates <strong>in</strong>each country.In each country a sample <strong>of</strong> approximately 1000 persons was selected fromthe population. The data was collected <strong>in</strong> February <strong>an</strong>d March 2002. InGreece, the Netherl<strong>an</strong>ds <strong>an</strong>d Norway data collection was done by telephone<strong>in</strong>terviews (CATI). In Norway, the Norwegi<strong>an</strong> Gallup was responsible for thedata collection, <strong>an</strong>d <strong>in</strong> Greece <strong>an</strong>d the Netherl<strong>an</strong>ds the surveys were run parallelwith Gallup Partner Institute Taylor Nelson S<strong>of</strong>res. In Spa<strong>in</strong> theEDOCUSA did the data collection by conduct<strong>in</strong>g direct <strong>in</strong>terviews <strong>in</strong> thestreets, shopp<strong>in</strong>g malls <strong>an</strong>d other crowded areas <strong>of</strong> 22 representative Sp<strong>an</strong>ishcities. When the questionnaires had been filled out they were sent to Norway,where Gallup did the data process<strong>in</strong>g.
