With the increase in childhoodobesity and the pressure to reach high standards in education ,the article “Healthy & Ready toLearn: Examining the Efficacy of an Early Approach to Obesity Prevention and SchoolReadiness” explains:Growing numbers of low-income, minority children face double jeopardy as alarmingobesity rates further widen existing achievement gaps. Health and educational disparitiespersist when children enter kindergarten lacking fundamental school readiness skills andare also at risk of obesity. To address this burgeoning problem, a new paradigm forschool readiness is emerging under the stewardship of leading national agencies.
