Meet the Assistant CoachesTIM KOHNAssistant CoachSecond SeasonDr. Tim Kohn, “Coach K,” enters hissecond season as an assistant coach forthe Spartans. Kohn has an extensivecoaching background at the high schooland AAU levels, beginning his coachingcareer in 1988. Kohn most recently coached for the IllinoisValley Starz AAU Girls’ Basketball program. During his threeyearstint with the Illinois Valley Starz, seven of his playerswent on to play basketball at the college level.Kohn’s previous coaching stops include Plano HighSchool, Newark High School, St. Edward Central CatholicHigh School (Elgin) and Ottawa Marquette High School. Whileat Ottawa Marquette, “Coach K” guided his Lady Crusaderssquad to an 18-win season, most in school history at that timeand a regional championship.“Tim is a great addition to our staff, bringing to AU a vastamount of coaching knowledge, experience and success as ahead coach. He has a true passion for coaching and bringsgreat ideas and enthusiasm to the program,” said Coach Roof.Kohn has a doctorate and bachelor of science degree fromNorthern Illinois <strong>University</strong>. He and his wife, Annette, live inOttawa with their daughter, Jaci Kohn.HEATHER GUETSCHOWAssistant CoachSecond SeasonHeather Guetschow returns to <strong>Aurora</strong><strong>University</strong> as an assistant coach for theSpartans. She was a student-assistantcoach for AU in the 2004-2005 season.Prior to returning to AU, Guetschowwas a part of the Dundee-Crown High School girl’sbasketball staff as a sophomore girl’s coach in 2006-2007 anda freshman girl’s coach in 2005-2006.Guetschow was a two-sport standout for the Spartansduring her playing career (2000-2004), excelling both on thesoccer field and hardwood for AU. While at AU, she playedon six conference championship teams and competed infour NCAA tournaments.“I have wanted Heather on my staff since I accepted thehead coaching position here. She was a great player andleader while a student-athlete at AU, and has gainedvaluable coaching experience at a top high school program.Heather understands the winning tradition at <strong>Aurora</strong><strong>University</strong> and knows what it takes to achieve it. She will bean outstanding mentor for our players,” said Coach Roof.Guetschow has a bachelor of arts degree in physicaleducation from <strong>Aurora</strong> <strong>University</strong>.PAUL WAITKOSSAssistant CoachFirst SeasonPaul Waitkoss enters his first seasonwith the Spartans. Waitkoss has coachedgirls’ basketball and softball at variousschools in Illinois, including PutnamCounty High School, Newark HighSchool, Rosary High School and Hinckley-Big Rock HighSchool. He also served as the head baseball coach atHinckley-Big Rock.He currently works as a special education teacher atSomonauk High School. He has also taught in PutnamCounty, West <strong>Aurora</strong>, Oswego and Newark School Districts inaddition to Rosary High School.“Coach Paul has been around the game of basketball for alot of years. He specializes in full and half court zone defensesand will be especially helpful with our trapping schemes. Ilook forward to the different ideas and philosophies he willbring to our program,” said Head Coach Michelle Roof.Waitkoss has a bachelor of science degree in history fromRockford College.2 AU Women’s Basketball
