TRANSLATION OF G.38, DIE FESTUNG EUROPA HAT KEIN DACH(OBVERSE)THE FORTRESS OF EUROPE HAS NO ROOFIn April 1943 the RAF dropped more than 10,000,000 kilograms of bombs on German industrialtargets. In May 1943 more than 12,500,000 kilograms of bombs were dropped. In a single week in May 750,000 kilograms of bombs were dropped alone on the Ruhr.Up to the 1st June 1943 English planes have dropped over 100,000,000 kilograms of bombs onGermany.THE ROYAL AIR FORCE TODAY IS STRONGER THAN THE GERMAN ANDITALIAN AIR FORCES COMBINEDIn America 7,000 planes were produced in April 1943.The American aeroplane industry delivered its hundred-thousandth plane for this war on May 7th.AMERICA TODAY PRODUCES MORE PLANES THAN GERMANY, Italy AND JAPANTOGETHERThese are the facts. What is the conclusion to be drawn? One could say: what the English havestood, that the Germans can also stand. But this would not be a true picture. The English-American air offensive against Germany isalready now far heavier than that of the German Luftwaffe against England ever was. In theirheaviest attack on an English town (London, 10th May, 1941) the Luftwaffe dropped 450,000kilograms of bombs in one night. In their up-to-date heaviest attack on a German town(Dortmund, 23rd May 1943), the RAF dropped 2,000,000 kilograms of bombs in one night, morethan four times as much, and that is only the beginning. The English held out because they knew if they held out things could only get better. They hadhardly begun to arm. They were only then getting into their stride. They knew that their own airpower and air defence was growing from day to day. They saw American war material arriving inmasses and they could hope that one day America would stand as an ally by their side. What can Germans hope for if they stand up bravely to further bombing? There are no more newallies for them. Germany’s own fighting power is on the wane. That of the English andAmericans is growing from day to day. Germany’s factories are being bombed. Its production hassunk by 20 per cent. American production is safe from bombs (bombensicher).Germany’s weakened airforce must fight on three fronts, everywhere on the defensive. The RAFand the American airforce have, despite the Atlantic Wall, created a front in the very heart ofGermany.THE “FESTUNG EUROPA” HAS NO ROOFNothing can alter this. The German workers and engineers who are holding out in the factoriescan no longer affect the course of the war. They can only lengthen the war. That means they cansee to it that more bombs will fall on Germany.[Diagrams showing the biggest raids of 1940/41/42/43 of the RAF and Luftwaffe respectively]THEIR NUMBER WILL GROW FROM MONTH TO MONTHHOW MUCH LONGER IS THIS TO GO ON?www.psywar.org

TRANSLATION OF G.38, DIE FESTUNG EUROPA HAT KEIN DACH(REVERSE)THIS IS HOW IT STARTED“With this new German air force we have not created an instrument for peaceful parades, but thesharpest instrument of war that it was in our power to create. Dreadful when we order it to strike! Then we shall swear it to our people, that there will be nothing to hold us back from unrestraineddaredevil attacks. An irrepressible fighting spirit inflames our Luftwaffe” .(Goering, 1st March 1938)“The water flows, the fire burns, the air is the soul of the earth and has been forever the elementsacred to the German God Wodan. Whoever tries to destroy you, the scoundrel, you may murderhim gaily. Look up into the air, and behold, out of the air, you have become the master”. (This, inthe original, is a poem!)(Hermann Burte, Völkischer Beobachter, 6th June 1940)“I was an eye-witness of the attacks of our Stukas on Rotterdam. I watched the attack of ourLuftwaffe from the top storey of a large department store. Soon more than a quarter of the town wasin flames and entire rows of houses were being blown sky high”.(Radio Breslau, 26th January 1941)“Over 100,000 homeless in London. The destruction of one of the most important districts of theEnglish metropolis is in full swing”.(Völkischer Beobachter, 1st October 1940)“Germany will never have to bear the destruction that is being inflicted over there on England, or onany other nation that has declared war against us. Germany, under the command of the Führer, willmarch to final victory, without heavy losses in valuable human lives and without damage to its warimportantinstallations and works”.(Field Marshal Milch, 19th May 1941)[In a separate panel]“The steady wearing down of the German and Japanese air forces is proceeding remorselessly. Theenemy, who thought that the air would be their weapon of victory are now finding in it the firstcause of their ruin. It is necessary for me to make it plain that, so far as the British Government andthe Governments of the Dominions and also the Governments of the United States and of theRussian Soviet Republic are concerned, nothing will turn us from our endeavour and intention toaccomplish the complete destruction of our foes by bombing from the air, in addition to all othermeans. Loud and lamentable outcries are being made by the enemy now that this form of warfare,by which they thought to obtain the mastery of the world, has turned markedly to their disadvantage. This outcry will only be regarded by us as a very satisfactory proof of the growing efficiency of ourattack”.(Churchill, 8th June 1943)[Above this a cartoon showing the devil with Hitler rubbing his hands at the destruction inflictedby the Axis on Democracy, as well as the weeping Hitler with the devil, while the Democraciesare bombing the Axis.]www.psywar.org
