54the availability of frequent monitoring data. For a reclamation project with a fill placementduration of about two to three years, seabed settlement monitoring data at a frequency ofabout one month is required. Both the back-analysis method and the Asaoka's method can be applied to counter check theresults of each method.5.4 Monitoring for Dredged ReclamationThe principles described in Section 5.3 above also apply to dredged reclamation. Settlementis usually the main parameter that is monitored in a fully dredged reclamation in order toconfirm prediction of settlement. For a partially dredged reclamation, monitoringinstruments similar to those in a drained reclamation may be set up to measure the pore waterpressure, settlement and lateral deformation. However, fewer instruments may be required, depending on the type and thickness of the remaining sub-soils.similar to that for a drained reclamation.Data interpretation will beWhere the dredged reclamation is carried out adjacent to existing developments or structures, monitoring instruments should be installed in the existing ground to monitor pore waterpressures and soil movements, and hence stability of these developments or structures.
