Historian and poet Dr. Naomi Quiñonez MC theday’s event, poet Leticia Hernandez read some of her wonderful poetry, and the musicalensemble Cascada de Flores, which explores Mexican and Caribbean folk music and dance,performed.Latino Heritage Month pays tribute to the generations of Americanos/Latino Americans whohave positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.4

Right – Juan Alicia and Naomi Quiñonez in discussion.Skyline College, TRiO, the Associated Students of Skyline College, Puente, the Center forStudent Life and Leadership Development, Skyline College Business Office and the Bookstorehosted a discussion of Juana Alicia’s body of work because we believe her work exemplifies thevalues and aspirations that Skyline College holds dear—inspiring a global and diversecommunity of learners to achieve intellectual, cultural, social, economic and personalfulfillment. Skyline College also believes that Juana Alicia’s work exemplifies the College’songoing commitment to "prepare students to be culturally sensitive members of the community,critical thinkers...socially responsible lifelong learners and informed participants of a democracyin an increasingly global society," and because "We value a deep engagement with thecommunity we serve and our role as an academic and cultural center for business, industry,labor, non-profits, government and the arts."Earth Book, refers to the interdependence of the environment and the learning process. Thehands that emerge from the natural environment surrounding the book are engaged in a variety ofactivities representative of some of the educational pursuits explored at Skyline College.
