CoolingPrecautions should be taken to limit the amount of heat produced during the drilling process:use an appropriate drilling rate, provide copious amounts of irrigation, and periodicallywithdraw the drill completely to allow the irrigant to flush out the debris.Depth controlThe drilling cylinders have a total length of 5 mm. Your SurgiGuide may come with writteninstructions describing depth indications. If this is not the case, remember that the drillingtubes are positioned relative to the highest point on the mucosa in the section above theimplant. Take the height of the mucosa into account in order to drill to the desired depth.cylinder5mmmucosaimplantVerify the exact depth of the implant site after the initial drilling. If for any reason the depth of the implant site needs to be increased, it is advisable tocontinue using the SurgiGuide while drilling to the desired depth. It may be necessary, if the longest available drill is too short, to increase the depth of the sitewithout the use of a SurgiGuide. In order to limit the amount of deviation, drill along thecenterline of the shaft until the desired depth is obtained. However, drilling without theSurgiGuide, may reduce the accuracy.Once you have finished drilling for all the implants, clinically assess the position/direction ofthe implant sites before you proceed with the next drilling.SURGICAL PROCEDURES4. Subsequent drill(s)Proceed with the following drill sequence taking into account the same recommendations asfor the first drill. Fit the SurgiGuide with the correct drilling cylinders or if a new SurgiGuide hasto be positioned, reassess its stability and verify its position in relationship to the position ofthe first guide. This can be achieved by simply looking through the guiding cylinders or withthe aid of direction indicators/paralleling pins.If it is not possible to find a stable position corresponding to the position of the firstSurgiGuide, the recommendation would be to not use the SurgiGuide and to revert to thestandard surgical procedure.Reassess the depth of the prepared implant sites and increase the depth as needed.64www.SimPlant.comSurgiGuide Cookbook
