Surgical Procedure: Mucosa-supported SurgiGuideThis document describes the procedure to follow when using a mucosasupportedSurgiGuide for surgery. As well pre-operative as surgical actions arementioned. Following these guidelines will improve the surgery results.IntroductionCT-data of the patient's jaw show clearly the outline of the jawbone, but not the outline of thegingiva. A mucosa-supported SurgiGuide requires a CT scan of the patient with a completeradiopaque scan prosthesis in the mouth. A complete radiopaque scan prosthesis clearlyoutlines the gingiva.A duplicate of the scan prosthesis (visible in the CT data) with inserted cylinders, according tothe planning, is the basic principle of the mucosa-supported SurgiGuide.Production of the scan prosthesis according to the procedure below and correct positioningof the scan prosthesis in the patient's mouth during the CT scan are essential for the transferof a pre-operative made treatment plan to the surgery.Sufficient vestibular and lingual support are essential for correct positioning. There must be enough supporting surface available in order to use the mucosa-supportedSurgiGuide.Scan prosthesisIn general a scan prosthesis is a duplicate of the diagnostic teeth set-up, based on anexisting removable prosthesis. To have a complete radiopaque scan prosthesis, it isrecommended to have the following quantities of BaSO4 for baseplate and teeth of theprosthesis:SURGICAL PROCEDURESbaseplateteeth10 % BaSO4 w/w20 % BaSO4 w/wRemarks:– Don't exceed the % of BaSO4. Exceeding the recommendations may cause blurredartefacts in the CT images.– Be sure to mix the acrylic resin and BaSO4 thoroughly. BaSO4 has the property tostick together easily. Accumulations of BaSO4 appear as dense radiopaque spotsand can disturb the imagesIt is also possibile to work with prefabricated radiopaque teeth.Another helpful tip is to fabricate a bite registration to obtain correct positioning of the scanprosthesis during CT scan. When creating a complete radiopaque scan prosthesis, it is recommended to consult a moredetailed description of the procedure.61www.SimPlant.comSurgiGuide Cookbook
