<strong>June</strong> <strong>22</strong>-<strong>23</strong>, <strong>2004</strong> 29<strong>22</strong>7LITIGATIONThis item was included in the agenda for the purpose <strong>of</strong> meeting with GeneralCounsel in executive session for a report on pending and possible litigation. No executivesession was held, and there was no report.DESKTOP COMPUTERS FOR GAYLORD HALL - NCThe Gaylord College <strong>of</strong> Journalism and Mass Communication will soon move to thenewly constructed Gaylord Hall, which is anticipated to be open for the Fall <strong>2004</strong> semester.Desktop computers are needed to equip the new Hall’s student computer labs as well as facultyand staff <strong>of</strong>fices. The College requested Apple computers for this purpose since they are typicalin newsrooms, advertising and public relations agencies, and broadcasting facilities. By doingso, students will be educated with technology they will most likely utilize upon graduation.The standard educational discount from Apple Computer is 10%. The Universitynegotiated a further quantity discount for this purchase, resulting in a <strong>23</strong>.5% total discount <strong>of</strong>flist price. Pricing was found to be fair and reasonable.Funding has been identified, set aside and is available within the Journalism and MassCommunication operating budget.President Boren recommended the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents authorize the President or hisdesignee to award a contract in the amount <strong>of</strong> $186,549, to Apple Computer, Inc. <strong>of</strong> Austin,Texas, on a sole source basis, for desktop computers for the newly constructed Gaylord Hall onthe Norman Campus.Regent Stuart moved approval <strong>of</strong> the recommendation. The following voted yes on themotion: Regents Everest, Clark, Stuart, Weitzenh<strong>of</strong>fer and Wade. The Chair declared themotion unanimously approved.MAINTENANCE FOR CAMPUS ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONSIn May <strong>2004</strong>, the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents approved the purchase and implementation <strong>of</strong> anEnterprise Financial System for the Norman Campus. As a result <strong>of</strong> that action, the opportunityto renegotiate maintenance contracts <strong>of</strong> all PeopleS<strong>of</strong>t modules developed. The Universitycurrently pays maintenance for the following PeopleS<strong>of</strong>t s<strong>of</strong>tware modules: HSC Financials,HSC Student Administration, and HSC/NC Human Resources. Beginning July <strong>2004</strong>, theUniversity also will pay maintenance for the NC Financials module. Combining the neededmaintenance support for both campuses for the service is anticipated to save the University $3.2million over the next eight years (see table below for details).Maintenance support for PeopleS<strong>of</strong>t S<strong>of</strong>tware is only available directly fromPeopleS<strong>of</strong>t USA, Inc.
