REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 3—GENERAL POLICIESc) Weapons present for a performance shall be kept secure or in the possessionand control <strong>of</strong> a designated staff member at all times when not actively inuse.6) For display in support <strong>of</strong> the educational mission <strong>of</strong> the University. Suchfirearms must be inoperable and approved and secured by means acceptable tothe Chief <strong>of</strong> Police at the Norman Campus, the Chief <strong>of</strong> Campus Police at theHealth Sciences Center Campus, or the Director <strong>of</strong> Operations at the TulsaCampus.7) For use as a teaching aid, subject to the following conditions:a) Permission for such use must be granted by the academic department headand prior written notice <strong>of</strong> the presence <strong>of</strong> the firearm on campus must begiven to the Chief <strong>of</strong> Police at the Norman Campus, the Chief <strong>of</strong> CampusPolice at the Health Sciences Center Campus, or the Director <strong>of</strong> Operationsat the Tulsa Campus.b) Such firearms must be approved and secured by means acceptable to theChief <strong>of</strong> Police at the Norman Campus, the Chief <strong>of</strong> Campus Police at theHealth Sciences Center Campus, or the Director <strong>of</strong> Operations at the TulsaCampus.c) Munitions shall not be present with firearms when used in class.8) As “starter pistols”, incapable <strong>of</strong> chambering or firing live projectile ammunition,for athletic events. Starter pistols and blank ammunition shall be secured at alltimes when not in use and shall be under the control <strong>of</strong> appropriate staff orathletic <strong>of</strong>ficials when in use.9) As construction equipment employing blank ammunition as a propellant forsetting fasteners when used by or under the supervision <strong>of</strong> authorized and trainedpersonnel.10) The cannon known as “Old Trusty” used by members <strong>of</strong> the group “LoyalKnights <strong>of</strong> Old Trusty” or “LKOT”, and the 75mm howitzer used by the ArmyROTC detachment may continue in their respective traditional uses, subject tothe following conditions:a) The safe use <strong>of</strong> these pieces is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the designated facultysponsor(s).b) The LKOT and the Army ROTC will notify the University PoliceDepartment <strong>of</strong> intended use <strong>of</strong> their respective pieces sufficiently in advance<strong>of</strong> a use to enable notification <strong>of</strong> other public safety agencies.11) Ffor ceremonial purposes, other than those specifically identified in Section B.10above,. Any group desiring to use a firearm and/or munitions on the campus willtender a request to the Chief <strong>of</strong> Police at the Norman Campus, the Chief <strong>of</strong>Campus Police at the Health Sciences Center Campus, or the Director <strong>of</strong>Operations at the Tulsa Campus.THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 179
