No action was required.ATOMIC FORCE MICROSCOPE - HSCThe department <strong>of</strong> Restorative Dentistry, in support <strong>of</strong> a National Institute <strong>of</strong> Healthgrant, is conducting a research project with an overall goal to determine the utility <strong>of</strong> selectedtopographical and physical properties as predictors <strong>of</strong> periodontal disease. The specific aims <strong>of</strong>the investigation are to characterize selected topographical and physical properties <strong>of</strong> tooth andrestorative biomaterial surfaces, to measure bi<strong>of</strong>ilm accumulations on those surfaces and toquantify the effect <strong>of</strong> laser, chemical and mechanical treatments <strong>of</strong> tooth and restorativebiomaterial surfaces.The knowledge gained from this project will be useful in the modification <strong>of</strong> thetopography <strong>of</strong> existing dental restorative materials and periodontal treatments, or in theformulation <strong>of</strong> guidelines for new restorative materials and treatments. In the long term, thisknowledge could help to reduce the incidence <strong>of</strong> diseases connected with bi<strong>of</strong>ilm formation andimprove oral care for dental patients.Grant.Funding is identified, set aside, and is available through a National Institute <strong>of</strong> HealthPresident Boren recommended the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents authorize the President or hisdesignee to solicit bids, negotiate, and award a contract in an amount not-to-exceed $200,000, foran Atomic Force Microscope, and report the results <strong>of</strong> the purchase at the September 14-15,<strong>2004</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Regents’ meeting.Regent Stuart moved approval <strong>of</strong> the recommendation. The following voted yes onthe motion: Regents Everest, Clark, Stuart, Weitzenh<strong>of</strong>fer and Wade. The Chair declared themotion unanimously approved.COURSE CHANGES - NORMAN CAMPUSThe Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education confer upon each institution theauthority to delete, modify and add courses. The course deletions, modifications and additionsitemized in the below list have been approved by the appropriate faculty, academic units anddeans, the Academic Programs Council, and the Senior Vice President and Provost.
