REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 3—GENERAL POLICIES• Sabbatical or other leaves the faculty has taken in the past six years, their dates andpurposes.• The purposes <strong>of</strong> the proposed leave.• The contribution <strong>of</strong> the leave to the realization <strong>of</strong> the faculty member’s goals and those<strong>of</strong> the University in research, teaching, or service.• The arrangements to be made by the department to handle the courses that normallywould be taught by the faculty member who is proposing to go on leave. The applicationshould be specific and list the affected courses or other work and the arrangements thathave been made for these courses and work.Requests for extension must contain updated information about the above items and will be subject tothe same approval procedure as an initial leave.Time spent on leave <strong>of</strong> absence without pay will not count toward a probationary period for tenure orfor eligibility for sabbatical leave.University contributions to the Defined Contributions Plan, AD &D, group life, medical and dentalinsurance will not be made during a leave <strong>of</strong> absence without pay. Persons on such leave without pay maypay for their own contributions to the plans, except to the Defined Contribution Plan.For staff, leaves <strong>of</strong> absence without pay for personal reasons may be recommended by the budget unithead when it appears to be in the best interest <strong>of</strong> the University and the employee. Such leaves may notexceed one year in length. A period <strong>of</strong> leave <strong>of</strong> absence without pay does not count as service time forcomputation <strong>of</strong> benefits other than for retirement as specified. Leave without pay for monthly paidemployees may not be for absences <strong>of</strong> less than one day’s duration.(RM, 11-12-43, p. 1475; 1-24-95, p. 24<strong>22</strong>0; 1-27-<strong>2004</strong>, p. 28924)PAID LEAVE AND EXTENDED SICK LEAVEPaid leave benefits are available to staff and twelve-month faculty who hold continuousappointments. Employees on limited appointments and student employees are not eligible for paid leavetime. Paid leave time may be used for vacation, illness, or other personal business. Monthly paidemployees working at least half time but less than full time will receive paid leave accrual based on theirFTE appointment. Details about accrual <strong>of</strong> paid sick leave for eligible part-time benefits-eligibleemployees on each campus are available from the Office <strong>of</strong> Human Resources. Employees on the hourlypayroll (Norman Campus only) receive paid leave accrual on the basis <strong>of</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> hours paid.Earned paid leave time is accrued on a monthly basis according to the schedule below:THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 168
