REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICS(j) instruct the members <strong>of</strong> the Hearing Tribunal on the principles <strong>of</strong> law to be applied to a particularcase;(k) take care that a court reporter is employed to develop a written record <strong>of</strong> tribunal proceedings;(l) rule on challenges, motions, pleas, and admissibility <strong>of</strong> evidence and testimony;(m) assign the duty <strong>of</strong> preparing decisions and opinions and approve the final product;(n) notify the proper persons, including the Dean, the Associate Dean and the tenured and tenuretrackfaculty <strong>of</strong> the Hearing Tribunal’s decisions and <strong>of</strong> any penalties imposed; and(o) take care that the final orders and decisions <strong>of</strong> the Hearing Tribunal are executed, including butnot limited to directing the change <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial records <strong>of</strong> a student adjudged to be guilty <strong>of</strong> aviolation where such change is required by a final decision and penalty.Sec. 412 — Ex Parte CommunicationsEx parte communications with the members <strong>of</strong> the Hearing Tribunal by any party, by any member <strong>of</strong> theCouncil or alternate, by any student, by any witness or by any faculty member or administrative <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong>the college concerning matters relevant to a case before the Hearing Tribunal are strictly prohibited. Allsuch communications shall be disclosed by the Hearing Tribunal to the parties. Every pleading, motion orother paper filed with the Hearing Tribunal shall be served on all other parties.TITLE V – PENALITIESSec. 501 — Penalties.The Hearing Tribunal may impose any <strong>of</strong> the following penalties in light <strong>of</strong> the facts, the severity <strong>of</strong> the<strong>of</strong>fense, mitigating circumstances and the dictates <strong>of</strong> fairness.(a) a reprimand;(b) probation;(c) a monetary penalty not to exceed $250 over and above the value <strong>of</strong> any property damage or value<strong>of</strong> any property destroyed or taken and not returned;(d) temporary or permanent suspension <strong>of</strong> rights or privileges deriving in whole or in part from theUniversity;(e) temporary or permanent suspension <strong>of</strong> eligibility for <strong>of</strong>ficial extracurricular activities;(f) temporary or permanent suspension <strong>of</strong> eligibility for any student <strong>of</strong>fice or honor;(g) cancellation <strong>of</strong> credit for scholastic work done;(h) reduction <strong>of</strong> the grade assigned in a course, unless the pr<strong>of</strong>essor or instructor has exercised theright to specify a grade penalty pursuant to § 703;(i) suspension from the College <strong>of</strong> Law or the University;THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 151
