REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICSCourse Changes and Petitions will be considered approved by the graduate faculty seven (7) days after theminutes are delivered if no written protest is received in the Graduate College office. When a writtenprotest is made by one or more members of the graduate faculty, the course change or petition will bereturned to Council for reconsideration. If the Council confirms its initial action, the matter will beconsidered final.Actions of the Graduate Council other than Course Changes and Petitions will not be put into effect untilat least 30 days after the notification of such actions has been circulated among the graduate faculty. Ifduring the 30-day period a valid written protest to Council action is made, the matter will be returned tothe Council for reconsideration. To be valid, the protest must be signed by 40 members of the graduatefaculty or 80 currently enrolled graduate students. If the Council confirms its initial action, a meeting ofthe graduate faculty shall be called for its consideration of the contested action. REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICS2.10.3—CHARTER OF THE GRADUATE FACULTY - NORMAN CAMPUSThe Norman Campus Faculty Handbook appendix and the Graduate College website include theCharter of the Graduate Faculty-Norman Campus.ARTICLE I: NAMEThe name of this organization shall be: “The Graduate Faculty of The University of Oklahoma-NormanCampus.”ARTICLE II: ORGANIZATIONA. There shall be a single University-wide Graduate College with a single University-wide graduatefaculty.B. Unless superseded by direct action of the graduate faculty acting as a whole, the legislative andacademic authority of the graduate faculty shall be vested in the Graduate Council.C. The Dean of the Graduate College shall be the chief University-wide officer for graduate studies andresearch. The Dean shall coordinate graduate programs among the respective program units. The Deanshall serve as the presiding officer of the University-wide graduate faculty and Graduate Council. TheOffice of the Dean of the Graduate College shall be the administrative center for all officialcommunications between the Graduate Council and the faculty and administrators.ARTICLE III: PURPOSESThe purposes of this organization shall be to:A. Promote excellence in graduate teaching, research and creative activity.B. Assist the graduate faculty in its teaching research/creative activity and related functions.C. Promote collaborative effort, exchange of information and mutual understanding among the graduatefaculty.ARTICLE IV: MEMBERSHIPSection 1: Graduate Faculty CommitteesA. Any academic unit offering courses or course work in any college awarding an undergraduate degreeon the Norman Campus may appoint members of the Graduate Faculty. In order to make such anappointment, the academic unit must elect a Graduate Faculty Committee made up of members of theGraduate Faculty. The Graduate Faculty Committee shall have the following responsibilities:1. Developing and publishing the criteria for membership on the Graduate Faculty which are appropriatefor that academic unit. Such criteria must be consistent with Section 2 of this Article.2. Providing the Graduate Dean with the unit’s criteria for membership.3.
