REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICS2.7—UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES2.7.1—DEFINITION OF RESOURCESThe University Libraries includes published materials in print; micr<strong>of</strong>orm and electronic formats;unpublished textual materials; photographs; maps; sound recordings; video discs; motion picture films;and all other similar materials acquired and held for use by students, faculty, and other researchers.2.7.2—THE DEAN OF LIBRARIESThe Dean <strong>of</strong> Libraries is the principal administrator for the University Libraries and is responsible forestablishing the mission, goals, and policies <strong>of</strong> the University Libraries. The Dean recommendsappointment <strong>of</strong> all University Libraries personnel; plans and oversees the operations <strong>of</strong> the UniversityLibraries and its branches; oversees special collections; coordinates acquisitions, and has budget authorityover all University Libraries accounts. The Dean represents the University Libraries to its campusconstituency, to pr<strong>of</strong>essional peers <strong>of</strong>f campus, and to the library pr<strong>of</strong>ession at large. The Dean <strong>of</strong>Libraries reports to the Senior Vice President and Provost <strong>of</strong> the Norman Campus.APPOINTMENT OF THE DEAN OF LIBRARIESThe Board <strong>of</strong> Regents appoints the Dean <strong>of</strong> Libraries upon the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the President.2.7.3—THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES FACULTY AND STAFFUniversity Libraries personnel consists <strong>of</strong> faculty, pr<strong>of</strong>essional librarians, and other staff. The Board<strong>of</strong> Regents appoints University Libraries faculty and pr<strong>of</strong>essional librarians upon the recommendation <strong>of</strong>the Dean <strong>of</strong> Libraries as approved by the President. Other staff are appointed by the Dean <strong>of</strong> Librariesconsistent with established personnel policies <strong>of</strong> the University.2.7.4—COMMITTEE ON UNIVERSITY LIBRARIESThere shall be a Committee on University Libraries on the Norman Campus which shall advise theDean in the allocation <strong>of</strong> University Libraries resources and on matters <strong>of</strong> University Libraries policy.This committee shall be a standing committee consisting <strong>of</strong> six members recommended by the NormanCampus Faculty Senate and three members appointed by the President. The Dean <strong>of</strong> Libraries is an ex<strong>of</strong>ficio member <strong>of</strong> the Committee on University Libraries.2.7.5—HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER LIBRARYThe Health Sciences Center Library shall be counted as a part <strong>of</strong> the University Libraries, and itsprograms and acquisitions are coordinated with those <strong>of</strong> the University Libraries on the Norman Campus.The Health Sciences Center Library is administered through the Health Sciences Center; and itsdirector reports to the Senior Vice President and Provost <strong>of</strong> the Health Sciences Center. The HealthSciences Center Library shall have its own faculty library committee.THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 119
