REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICSNONCREDIT CERTIFICATESNoncredit certificates (e.g. certificates <strong>of</strong> participation, certificates <strong>of</strong> completion, certificates <strong>of</strong>achievement) may be issued through the College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Education recognizing achievement <strong>of</strong>pr<strong>of</strong>iciency in some designated area through successful completion <strong>of</strong> either single or multiple course,credit-free, University-sponsored continuing education activities (e.g. short courses, conferences,workshops, pr<strong>of</strong>essional development, and training). Such activities may be conducted in associationwith recognized pr<strong>of</strong>essional associations, business groups, government agencies, and/or other academicunits <strong>of</strong> the University and the certificate may so state, although certificates may be issued only in thename <strong>of</strong> The University <strong>of</strong> Oklahoma. Certificates shall designate their issuing authority as “TheUniversity <strong>of</strong> Oklahoma, Continuing Education and Public Service,” or if applicable, “The University <strong>of</strong>Oklahoma, College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Education, in association with (name <strong>of</strong> appropriate pr<strong>of</strong>essionalassociation or academic unit).”Courses or sequences <strong>of</strong> courses upon which such certificates will be based must be submitted forprior review to, and must conform to requirements for course content and quality established by, a reviewcommittee composed <strong>of</strong> representatives <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Education and <strong>of</strong> the Universityfaculty.Certificates recognizing achievement in credit-free College <strong>of</strong> Continuing Education activities will beadministered through the Office <strong>of</strong> the Vice President for University Outreach. That <strong>of</strong>fice is responsiblefor the design, printing, issuance, and recording <strong>of</strong> all such certificates.Programs leading to pr<strong>of</strong>essional pr<strong>of</strong>iciency <strong>of</strong> such an order as those provided by the University forfellows, residents, interns, and other programs <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional training, whether terminal and withoutdegree status, post-degree, or post-doctoral, at the Health Sciences Center and/or affiliated hospitals maybe recognized by certificates in a form to be prescribed from time to time.Certificates issued in conformity with University and/or state legislation may be printed only in thename and under the authority <strong>of</strong> the University. Hence, no certificate <strong>of</strong> any character may be issuedunder authority <strong>of</strong> any other agency naming the University as a cooperating institution in the program <strong>of</strong>training sponsored cooperatively with the University by such agency, except as provided above.Certificates may be issued by the University, pursuant to appropriate University and/or statelegislation, as incorporated in the <strong>of</strong>ficial publications <strong>of</strong> the University from time to time, for attendanceat University-sponsored programs <strong>of</strong> formal instruction and/or research at the pre- and post-doctorallevels, and such levels shall be recognized in such certificates. Such certificates shall conform to theprovisions here<strong>of</strong>.Certificates <strong>of</strong> participation in short courses, workshops, and pr<strong>of</strong>essional gatherings may be issuedby the colleges at the Health Sciences Center in a form to be prescribed from time to time, but suchcertificates shall avoid the appearance and/or the implications <strong>of</strong> academic credit or pr<strong>of</strong>essionalpr<strong>of</strong>iciency reserved to formal programs <strong>of</strong> academic study.Certificates may be issued by the University, under appropriate legislation, to winners andparticipants in scholarly competitions sponsored by the University and conducted in its name, whethersuch contestants are <strong>of</strong> non-resident, high school, undergraduate, or graduate status, in a form to beprescribed from time to time.(RM, 6-15-35, p. 546; 5-25-49, p. 3127; 7-12-50, p. 3608; 10-10-51, p. 4161; 10-8-64, p. 7963; 11-9-67, p. 9164; 5-14-70, p. 10338; 6-14-79, p. 15572; 10-16-85, p. 18615; 11-14-91, p. <strong>22</strong>658; 1-28-98, p.25759; 1-27-<strong>2004</strong>, p. 28924)THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 109
