REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICSResearch Council.Evaluations - The Vice President for Research will present to the appropriate Research Council allnominations with the supporting documentation and the comments <strong>of</strong> the academic unit chair/director andcollege dean. In addition, the Vice President for Research will present to the Research Council theexternal evaluations and his/her own evaluation.Selection ProcedureFinal Nomination - The Research Council shall recommend to the President, through the appropriateSenior Vice President and Provost, all those nominated faculty deemed by the Research Council to fullymeet the criteria for selection as George Lynn Cross Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essors. The Council also shall transmitall substantiating materials pertaining to all nominees. The Council on Faculty Awards and Honors willbe informed <strong>of</strong> those recommended by the Research Council.Selection - The Senior Vice President and Provosts will review the nominees and forward theirrecommendations, along with all nominations and all substantiating materials pertaining to all nominees,to the President, who will make the recommendations to the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents.PerquisitesIn the year <strong>of</strong> designation as a George Lynn Cross Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, the person receiving thepr<strong>of</strong>essorship will receive a one-time cash award <strong>of</strong> $6,000 and a permanent salary increase <strong>of</strong> $6,000starting in the subsequent fiscal year. Persons named George Lynn Cross Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essors on or afterSpring 1996 are not eligible for consideration as Presidential Pr<strong>of</strong>essors. On the Norman Campus eachyear, the appropriate Vice President for Research, in consultation with the Research Council, shallestablish a fund from which only George Lynn Cross Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essors can request support for theirscholarly and creative activities.Term <strong>of</strong> the AwardThe term <strong>of</strong> a George Lynn Cross Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essor is continuous until retirement.(RM, 5-11-78, pp. 14956-7; 3-15-89, p. 20938; 6-27-95, p. 24481; 9-26-95, p. 24589; 1-27-<strong>2004</strong>, p.28924)PRESIDENTIAL PROFESSORSHIPSCriteria for SelectionPresidential Pr<strong>of</strong>essors are those faculty members who excel in all their pr<strong>of</strong>essional activities and whorelate those activities to the students they teach and mentor. These pr<strong>of</strong>essors inspire their students,mentor their undergraduate and/or graduate students in the process <strong>of</strong> research and creative/scholarlyactivity within their discipline, and exemplify to their students (both past and present) and to theircolleagues (both at the University and within their disciplines nationwide) the ideals <strong>of</strong> a scholar throughtheir endeavors in teaching; research and creative/scholarly activity; and pr<strong>of</strong>essional and Universityservice and public outreach.To support this charge, nomination materials will include:1. The nominee’s mini-vita and faculty evaluations for the previous three years (or since beginning at theUniversity if the nominee has been at the University less than three years) and the nominee’s completevita.THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 79
