REGENTS’ POLICY MANUALSECTION 2—ACADEMICSSupporting Documentation - Recommendations are to be accompanied by specific evidence that thenominee meets the criteria for selection. Whenever possible, surveys <strong>of</strong> representative groups <strong>of</strong> presentand former students should be made and reported.Selection ProcedureReview - The Council on Faculty Awards and Honors shall recommend to the President, through theSenior Vice President and Provosts, only those nominated faculty considered by the Council to be mosthighly qualified and most deserving <strong>of</strong> being awarded the David Ross Boyd Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship. The Councilalso shall transmit all substantiating materials pertaining to all nominees.Selection - The Senior Vice President and Provosts will review the nominees from the respectivecampuses and forward their recommendations, along with all nominations and all substantiating materialspertaining to all nominees, to the President, who will make recommendations to the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents.PrerequisitesIn the year <strong>of</strong> designation as a David Ross Boyd Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, the person receiving the award will receive aone-time cash award <strong>of</strong> $6,000 and a permanent salary increase <strong>of</strong> $6,000 starting in the subsequent fiscalyear. Persons named David Ross Boyd Pr<strong>of</strong>essors on or after Spring 1996 are not eligible forconsideration as Presidential Pr<strong>of</strong>essors. On the Norman Campus each year, the Senior Vice Presidentand the Provost, in consultation with the Director <strong>of</strong> the Instructional Development Program, shallestablish a fund from which David Ross Boyd Pr<strong>of</strong>essors who are involved in full-time teaching canrequest support for their instructional activities.Term <strong>of</strong> the AwardThe term <strong>of</strong> a David Ross Boyd Pr<strong>of</strong>essor is continuous until retirement.(RM, 5-11-78, pp. 14955-6; 3-15-89, p. 20938; 6-27-95, p. 24480; 9-26-95, p. 24594; 1-27-<strong>2004</strong>,p. 28924)GEORGE LYNN CROSS RESEARCH PROFESSORSHIPSCriteria for SelectionTo qualify for a George Lynn Cross Research Pr<strong>of</strong>essorship, a faculty member must have demonstratedoutstanding leadership over a period <strong>of</strong> years in his or her field <strong>of</strong> learning or creative activity and havebeen recognized by peers for distinguished contributions to knowledge or distinguished creative work.Nomination ProcedureInitiation - The Senior Vice President and Provosts will solicit recommendations for the pr<strong>of</strong>essorship bySeptember and announce appropriate schedules for processing the nominations.Recommendations - Any academic unit may submit to the appropriate Vice President for Research thename <strong>of</strong> any tenured faculty member with the rank <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essor who is deemed to meet the criteria forselection. The Vice President for Research will request that the appropriate academic unit chair/directorand college dean review and comment on those recommendations.Supporting Documentation - Recommendations are to be accompanied by specific indications that theperson being recommended meets the criteria for selection. The appropriate Vice President for Research,consulting with knowledgeable persons both within and outside the University, will develop a list <strong>of</strong>external evaluators to aid in the review process. The specific procedures for evaluating those beingrecommended will be developed by the Vice Presidents for Research in consultation with the appropriateTHE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA 78
