CURRICULUM Academic ProgrammeThe Prep Forms follow a primary-style integrated programme, incorporating a broad range of subjects.1st <strong>and</strong> 2nd Forms: English, Mathematics, French, History, Geography, Science, Religious Studies, ICT, Art, Music, Drama <strong>and</strong>Physical Education.3rd Form: English, Mathematics, French, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Religious Studies, ICT, Spanish, German,Russian, M<strong>and</strong>arin, Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education <strong>and</strong> PSHE. The courses follow detailed syllabuses prepared by UK-based external publicexamination boards. In the Autumn <strong>and</strong> Summer terms these include trekking, mountain biking, rock climbing, orienteering, ropescourses <strong>and</strong> camp craft. The principal activities in the Winter term are ski-touring, cross country skiing <strong>and</strong> snow-shoeing. LongExpeditions for Junior <strong>and</strong> Middle School students take place in the Winter (ski-touring based in a mountain hut or hostel) <strong>and</strong> inthe Summer (a three-day extended hike).Physical Education: All students participate in the PE Programme. In the Autumn <strong>and</strong> Summer terms, a range of activities areoffered, including tennis, basketball, cross-country running, volleyball, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis, fitness for health,weight training, squash, yoga, swimming, aerobics, football, rugby <strong>and</strong> track <strong>and</strong> field athletics. In the Winter term the mainactivity is skiing (on- <strong>and</strong> off-piste <strong>and</strong> cross-country); snowboarding, freestyle <strong>and</strong> ski race training are also offered.CAS: <strong>Aiglon</strong>’s extra-curricular programme. Students are required to participate in a balanced programme of Creativity, Action <strong>and</strong>Service outside the normal curriculum. There are approximately 100 activities which normally include: adventure club, astronomy,baking for charity, ballet, book club, chess club, choir, climbing, current affairs, dance, debating, drama, fashion design, Duke ofEdinburgh’s Award, film making, football, fitness, global issues, helping local primary school children, investment club, meals forthe elderly, model united nations, karate, painting on porcelain, jazz b<strong>and</strong>, rock b<strong>and</strong>, recycling, riding, round square, Spanish filmclub, st<strong>and</strong>-up comedy, swimming, volley ball, year book production.Round Square: In addition to projects in the local community, <strong>Aiglon</strong> students have recently participated in projects in Thail<strong>and</strong>,Rw<strong>and</strong>a, Peru <strong>and</strong> Nepal. Students also engage in the annual Regional <strong>and</strong> Global conferences <strong>and</strong> may have an opportunity towork on the Round Square committee.Music: Ensembles of various types <strong>and</strong> sizes run through the year. Instrumental lessons are available in piano, guitar (includingclassical, electric <strong>and</strong> bass), percussion, strings (including violin <strong>and</strong> cello), brass <strong>and</strong> woodwind; a more comprehensive list isavailable on request. It is compulsory for any student taking GCSE or IB Music to also take some form of instrumental musiclessons, a minimum of 30 minutes per week (at an extra cost).2

Bills for out-patient(ambulatory) medical treatment are reimbursed to 90% after being charged to the student’s account. Hospitalisation, accidents<strong>and</strong> repatriation are covered 100%.Pocket Money: Pocket money is charged in advance with the fees.VAT: VAT is chargeable on the school account. FINANCIAL CONDITIONS1. Annual FeesThe fees for the first two terms are due by 31 July <strong>and</strong> for the third term by 31 January. The fees are reviewed annually by theBoard of Governors, although in exceptional circumstances fees may be subject to an interim review.2. Enrolment of a New Studenta) If a student is accepted, his or her place is reserved on receipt of the deposit.The deposit is reimbursed when the student leaves the school, provided the account has been fully settled.b) Admission is confirmed on receipt of the fees for the first two terms, which are due by 31 July.c) In the event of written cancellation of enrolment before 31 July, the fees, but not the deposit, will be reimbursedin full. Cancellation after that date will mean that the fees for the first term are payable.d) Students enrolling mid-year have to pay the full fees for the remaining part of the academic year before enrolling.In the case of such a student withdrawing, the fees are not refundable.3. Re-Enrolmenta) Those parents wishing to withdraw a student for the following academic year must inform the Head Master in writingbefore 31 March. If cancellation occurs after this deadline, fees in lieu are due for the first term <strong>and</strong> the deposit will notbe reimbursed.b) <strong>Aiglon</strong> will retain a place for all other students.4. Expulsion <strong>and</strong> SuspensionThe fees for the whole term are due in the case of expulsion. If a student is suspended for misconduct, transport <strong>and</strong>accommodation costs will be passed on to the parents.5. Absence from SchoolFees are not reimbursed when schooling is missed, for sickness, injury or any other reasons. Parents who are concerned shouldtake out their own insurance.6. WithdrawalIf a student is to be withdrawn by parents during the school year, one term’s written notice, addressed to the Director ofAdmissions, is required. Fees for the following term are payable <strong>and</strong> the deposit will not be reimbursed if this notice is not given.In cases where withdrawal is mutually agreed by parents <strong>and</strong> the Head Master, only the fees for the term in progress are payable<strong>and</strong> the deposit will be reimbursed, provided the student’s account has been fully settled.7. Late PaymentIn the case of late payment of fees or extras, <strong>Aiglon</strong> reserves the right to charge 1% per month interest.In exceptional cases, the student may not be allowed to return to the <strong>College</strong> until the outst<strong>and</strong>ing balance has been paid.8. TribunalIn the case of litigation between the School <strong>and</strong> parents, the competent Tribunal will be that of Vevey.9. Term DatesFor the purposes of this agreement term dates are:Autumn term: 1 September to 31 December; Winter term: 1 January to 31 March; Summer term: 1 April to 31 August.On the admission of a student to <strong>Aiglon</strong> <strong>College</strong>, the Parent/Guardian is required to sign a copy of these Financial Conditions toconfirm acceptance.ADVANCE PAYMENT OF SCHOOL FEESIt is possible to make a lump sum payment in respect of school fees. The advantages of making such a payment will vary accordingto individual circumstances, but might include any number of the following:• Certainty of funding during your child’s education: An advance payment of a lump sum will ensure that funds are available topay guaranteed amounts towards future fees.• Transfer of funds from gr<strong>and</strong>parents’ or parents’ estate: The advance payment of fees by a gr<strong>and</strong>parent or parentremoves the monies from the relevant estate. In some cases, this can be a very effective element to death duty planning.• Fixing exchange rate at date of payment: An advance payment will be converted at the exchange rate applicable on receipt offunds, thereby removing exposure to the risk of future adverse movements in exchange rates.• A discount is allowed in respect of lump sum payments: Where a lump sum advance payment is made, a discount will beallowed.• The level of discount will vary according to prevailing interest rates <strong>and</strong> how far in advance the payment is made.• Individual quotations will be provided on application.Partial Funding: The amount of an advance payment does not have to be designed to cover full fees. If appropriate, it can bedesigned to cover a lesser percentage of the fee, leaving parents to pay the balance as billed.Please note that paying fees in advance does not protect against future fee increases.If the advance fee scheme is of interest, <strong>and</strong> you wish to receive a quotation or further details, please contact the SchoolAccountant, by email at finance@aiglon.ch.6


ADMISSIONS PROCEDUREStage 1: Arrange a VisitStage 2: <strong>Application</strong> Form <strong>and</strong> Supporting DocumentationAn offer of a place at <strong>Aiglon</strong> cannot be confirmed until we are in receipt of all of the following documentation.Please note that discovery of false or incomplete information may jeopardize a child's right to remain at the school.1. <strong>Application</strong> FormThis should be filled in <strong>and</strong> signed by the person responsible for the student’s education.2. Registration FeeThere is a SFr 2’000 registration fee per child which is non-returnable, payable when the <strong>Application</strong> Form issubmitted. This can be paid online by credit card or by bank transfer (see page 5 for details).3. Health CertificateThis should be filled in <strong>and</strong> signed by the student’s doctor.4. 10 recent passport-sized colour photographs (Please ask us for specifications)5. Copies of the Student’s School ReportsThese should be submitted for at least the 12 months prior to application.6. Character RecommendationsThese should be addressed to the Director of Admissions by the Headmaster, Headmistress or Principal of thestudent’s present school. No decision on admissions is taken until the character recommendation has been received.7. TranscriptWe require a final transcript from the student’s current school for all c<strong>and</strong>idates aged 14 <strong>and</strong> over.8. A photocopy of the student’s passportOnly the page with the photograph <strong>and</strong> personal details is required, or, for Swiss residents, an “Attestation deDomicile” from the Commune.Stage 3: Entrance Tests <strong>and</strong> InterviewsThe Entrance Tests (total 3 hours) are normally taken at <strong>Aiglon</strong>.The following three papers have to be taken by all applicants before any decision can be made:• General Ability• Mathematics• English (<strong>and</strong> an English as a Second Language Test where appropriate)An Interview with the Head Master <strong>and</strong>/or Junior School Headmaster is usually required.Stage 4: Final DocumentationThe School will send:1. School H<strong>and</strong>book <strong>and</strong> Diary2. Final enrolment papers for signatureTo secure your child’s place at <strong>Aiglon</strong> <strong>College</strong>, payment of a Joining Fee <strong>and</strong> Deposit of SFr 12’000 per student is required atthis stage. This can be paid online by credit card or by bank transfer (see page 5 for details). SFr 10’000 will be refunded onthe final invoice when your child leaves <strong>Aiglon</strong>. SFr 2’000 will be used for funding bursaries <strong>and</strong> scholarships. See FinancialConditions on page 6 concerning deposit refunds.Stage 5: Passports, Permits <strong>and</strong> VisasWe will take care of Residence Permits for non-Swiss residents, but we cannot obtain Visas on students’ behalf: thismust be done by parents. Visas are not required for students holding passports from Western Europe <strong>and</strong> Japan. For othercountries, the Admissions Office is happy to advise. Further information is also available on the Swiss Federal Office forMigration website, www.bfm.admin.ch. Where a Swiss visa is required, the student must submit an application for a multientryvisa by the end of May at the latest to the Swiss Embassy or Consulate in their own country.
