Bieber Red Angusparticipates in the South Dakota Animal Industry Board’s Johnne’sTesting program and every cow in the herd past its second lactation hastested negative for Johnne’s.In the past bulls have been tested for persistent BVD carriers and alltests were negative for a number of years. We have chosen not to testthe bulls this year since no positives have been found in over 10 years.Bieber Red Angus participates in the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA)program. Heifer calves have been Bangs vaccinated.GENETIC DEFECTS:Every animal in the Bieber Red Angus production sale is guaranteednegative for the recessive gene associated with Osteopetrosis andArthrogryposis Multiplex (Curly Calf Syndrome) and NeuropathicHydrocephalus (NH). With this guarantee, we provide our customersthe opportunity to purchase their choice of cattle with very little risk.DNA samples have been collected on every animal in the sale with anyknown carrier in the first three generations and tested negative unlessotherwise noted.RETAINED INTEREST:We are retaining 1/2 interest in all bulls in the sale. We are selling theremaining 1/2 interest, full possession, and full salvage value on thesebulls. This option gives Bieber Red Angus Ranch the option to collect,use and market semen from the bull and does not restrict the purchaserfrom doing the same. Three stars (***) indicates that a particular bull can be usedon heifers under standard conditions with little or no calving difficulty.Two stars (**) indicates that a particular bull should be used on growthyheifers or cows under standard conditions with little or no difficulty.One star (*) indicates that a particular bull be used on cows. These bullswill produce little difficulty when used on cows.Birth weights are highly affected by environmental factors. Researchindicated that the inclusion of corn in cow diets will increase BW. Alsocontributing to higher BW were cold temperatures in the winter of2002/2003. The University of Nebraska conducted a three-year-studyto research and evaluate effects of high and low temperatures duringwinter months on calves out of 384 2-year-old heifers. Average BWincreased by 11 lbs. when temperatures were colder. The results agreewith other studies that show calves born in the southern U.S. comparedwith calves that are born in the northern U.S. Weather plays an importantrole in BW and calving difficulty. We have adjusted the calving easescores accordingly, taking into consideration what the calf ratioed onBW, pedigree and BW EPD.FEEDING:Feeding arrangements are available on all yearling animals at acharge of $2 per day and two-year-old bulls at $2.50 per day. We willfeed your purchases from sale day until you are ready to pick up yourpurchases.BREEDING SOUNDNESS EVALUATION:Semen evaluations are performed after the bulls have completed theirgain test, the week before the sale. Some bulls are too young to passa Breeding Soundness Evaluation and will need to be tested at a laterdate. We fully guarantee that these bulls will pass the Breeding SoundnessEvaluation before the breeding season. We contemporarygroup our Red Angus calves based on the age of our cows. Calves outof two-year-old dams, three-year-old dams, and main cowherd are allseparate management groups and therefore are separate contemporarygroups.WEANING WEIGHTS:All naturally born calves born at Bieber Red Angus Ranch are raisedwithout creep. We feel that this helps us select and breed for dams thathave milking ability and sound udders. ET calves are on creep feed toexpress their full genetic potential.INSURANCE:Livestock insurance will be available on sale day.

— Red Angus Coming 2’s —About the two-year-olds: The two-year-old ADG and WDA data comes from a period starting from the time they were weaned in Octoberto when yearling weights where taken in the spring. These bulls generally have a much longer gain test that our yearling bulls. The ration isdesigned for the bulls to gain about 2.75 lbs. per day. Developing bulls in this fashion ensures that bulls remain sound and have superior longevity.In June they are turned out to grass with no supplementation other than salt and mineral. In late September they are brought into lotsand worked up to a 46 NEg ration. This ration ensures bulls remain sound and have superior longevity. The truth is, there is alot more to it than mating the right cows to the right bulls.Every year we have customers tell us how our bulls standup better compared to bulls from other breeders. We arevery proud of how they stand up under reasonable conditions.Cattle feeding is 1/3 skill, 1/3 science and 1/3 art. Feed toomuch and cattle get fat and will not hold up for our customers.Feed wrong and you lose out on a bull expressinghis full genetic potential. We try to feed our bulls similarto how we believe our customers will feed their calves. Westart them on a 41meg ration (expected gain 1.5 to 2 ADG)and keep them on it for the first 45 days. That prepares therumen flora to handle a higher meg ration. The bulls arenext taken up to a 46meg ration (expected gain 2.25 to 2.7ADG) for three weeks. At that time they are moved up to a52meg ration (expected gain 3.2 to 3.5 ADG). We keep thebulls on that ration until they are scanned and at that timethey are moved back down to the 46 meg and kept therethrough the sale until delivery. We make a concerted effortto feed our bulls feed stuffs raised on our ranch and feedwe feel that our customers will have access to. Our rationconsists of alfalfa hay, grass hay, barley silage, high moisturecorn, wet distillers grain and mineral. We try to feed aleast-cost ration.When you look through the catalog you will see many bullsgaining between 3 and 4 pounds per day. They are not underfed. When you walk through the pens on sale day thebull are not fat. The bulls are in good condition with plentyof muscle.
