Moving Forwardby Giving BackTeamwork, pro bono and communityservice have been staple componentsof the Latham & Watkins culture sincethe firm’s founding in 1934. In 2009,Latham & Watkins celebrated its 75thanniversary and, in conjunction with thatcelebration, launched the “MovingForward by Giving Back” communityservice program.Through this initiative, attorneys,paralegals and staff from the firm’s officesacross the globe shared their time, talentsand enthusiasm in support of charitiesand other organizations with missions thathelp the poor and/or eradicate poverty intheir local communities. Activities includedraising funds to support homeless youthin London, sports activities for disabledchildren and adults in Madrid and Brussels,feeding the hungry in San Diego, Rome,Chicago, Milan and San Francisco, andproviding clothing, computers and pajamasto orphans in New York, Singapore andHong Kong.Latham & Watkins offices also were activein participating in teaching and mentoringprograms for low-income, high-riskyouth in New Jersey and Los Angeles,cooking and serving meals to the homelessat a Tokyo food bank — the first-everfood bank established in Japan — andby spearheading a charity drive thatcollected clothing, household goods andmedical supplies for vulnerable families,orphanages and hospitals throughoutRussia. Continuing to grow as a firm, andto celebrate the Latham & Watkins spirit bysharing it with our communities and eachother, is as important to the firm now as itwas in its first 75 years. •60 Latham & Watkins • 2009 Annual Review
