Defining Conflict of Interest 9ConclusionThe UNCAC established the Conference of the States Partiesto the Convention, a body entrusted with promoting and reviewingits implementation. The Conference held its inaugural sessionin December 2006 in Jordan and will hold its second session inJanuary 2008 in Indonesia. At its first session, the Conference determinedthree key priority areas for its work: monitoring of implementationof the Convention, asset recovery, and technical assistance.It is expected that these areas will remain high on the agenda duringthe second session of the Conference and will continue to guide itswork in the foreseeable future. However, the Conference is likely torefocus its efforts on the prevention chapter of the Convention asa crucial element of success in the fight against corruption. Whenthis happens, COI is likely to emerge as an area deserving specialcare and requiring action at all levels, both domestically and internationally.The UN will continue to work with other internationalinstitutions and the continuously growing number of parties to theConvention to prevent conflicts of interest and ultimately reducecorruption in all its forms.ADB/OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific
