Carolinas Region DE at VIRThe Carolinas Region hosted an unusual nonweekendDE on Monday, July 12 and Tuesday,July 13 at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR).Consequently there were only 84 drivers divided intofour run groups of about 20 each. There was alwaysplenty of space on this track, which is long enough toaccommodate 50 cars at once. The whole event wasunusually relaxed and low key. There were more 944’sthan GT3’s, unlike some other recent DE’s dominatedby high-power cars. Rain threatened a lot but onlyhappened for about one hour, and everybody got abouttwo hours of track time per day. I highly recommendthis event for anyone who can take the weekdays off.HEAT EXCHANGER MART2008HeatExchg Ad_128089 11/18/08 10:09 AM Page 1by Jim CondonThe Shenandoah Region was represented by HamischBrookeman, Jim Condon, and Sherry Westfall. Withso little distraction from traffic, I found it easier toconcentrate on my own driving. Sherry drove in “group2” (equivalent to the “blue” run group) and on Mondayso impressed her instructor that he recommended shetry for the solo “white” group (see cover photo). OnTuesday she took the chief instructor for a checkout rideand was promoted.
