Given that marketschange constantly, portfolio management is anongoing task. We are developing our portfolio byinvesting in existing businesses and in newbusinesses, either through organic growth orthrough acquisitions.Our portfolio policy is guided by two fundamentalprinciples: Our goal is to be the Number 1 orNumber 2 in all our businesses. We have already metthese two conditions in the majority of our businesses.In those businesses that fall short, we have aclearly defined intermediate-term strategy designedto help us attain a leading position. Our businessexperience has shown that only those companieswith a leading position in their markets remain profitable,even during times of crisis. In addition, thesecompanies earn well enough to continue to investadequately in R&D and in strengthening their portfolios.We are concentrating in three application fieldsthat have high future potential.
