Until he has takenhis great power assumed control and put down oppression,injustice, and every error and wrong.Storm clouds are gathering thick over the old world. It looks asthough a great European war is one of the possibilities of thenear future.Overproduction has for the moment clogged the wheels of tradethe world over, and a halt is called by producers from fear ofloss. The result is first felt by the wageworkers, so many ofwhom live "from hand to mouth." Unrest is now more quicklydeveloped than formally in this class because of a wider range ofknowledge. Large gatherings of men have assembled in Londonand Paris lately demanding that some Public improvements beprosecuted to afford them work and wages.Such crises tax the ingenuity of statesmen and not infrequentlyhelp to foment contentions and war. At present we find all theprominent powers of Europe intent on colonization schemes andthe acquirement of increased territory. The object of this is twofold perhaps: to furnish employment and diversion for thethousands of regular paid soldiery and maintain among them themartial spirit without jeopardizing a revolution at home while atthe same time these civilized (?) nations hope to take suchadvantage of poor ignorant barbarous tribes as may henceforthincrease the home treasury by heavy taxes wrung from theseheathen people for their protection (?)
