Thus every Scripture points to the merit of the sacrifice on ourbehalf. His sacrifice redeemed us, he bought all; all are his, and herepresents all whom he purchased, and will continue to representthem, and to deal for them, until such times as he shall haveperfected them and presented them perfect to the Father, (1 Cor.15:27,28 and Jude 24.) unless they wilfully and designedly removetheir case from his charge. Those whom the apostle mentions as falling into the hands of theliving God and receiving his fiery indignation, and being devouredor destroyed as his adversaries, are those who reject the ransom andrefuse God's spirit of favor therein extended to them--who reject theefficacy of the blood which sealed and ratified the New Covenantand attempt to stand before God and deal for themselves with alltheir imperfection.====================R792 : page 6THE LAW COVENANT AND ITS MEDIATIONTYPICAL NOT REAL.The Law Covenant made with Israel was binding upon themwhen they accepted its conditions, to the extent that it was a REALcovenant. And well it is for Israel that theirs was only a typicalcovenant and its conditions, penalties, etc., only typical; because, had that covenant been real, they in coming under its conditionswould have become individually liable to its penalty, DEATH. Forthough this penalty is no worse, but in fact the same, that was uponthem and the whole world, before, as sharers of the condemnationupon Adam their representative, yet there would have been thisdifference: that instead of one man's disobedient act and one man'spenalty, to be met before another covenant could be ratified or putinto operative force, there would have been the disobedience ofevery one of the millions of Israelites to be met by a correspondingprice. Nothing short of ten million saviours would have been acorresponding price for ten million individual sinners.Consequently, only one man's disobedience and penalty, being thusfar settled by one man--Christ Jesus, it follows, that if Israel'scovenant had been real, if its Mediator brought them under a newcondition of individual obligation, then indeed the Law Covenantwould have been a curse and injury and not a blessing; for underthat covenant all would have been individually condemned to death. And not one of those individuals could have life or any otherblessing under the New Covenant, because if individually liableunder the Law Covenant, each Jew would require an individualredeemer to die for him--to pay his ransom price, death. We know that millions of saviours have not died to ransom millionsof Jews, consequently, if their covenant were a real one, they arenot redeemed from its penalty to this day.
