manifestation to believers, of God's acceptance of the work, isaccomplished the "scapegoat company" are sent away, and therobes of the Priest changed. As the white robes worn throughout thework of sacrifice-- which covered the body and represented thejustification of the body, their purity in God's sight through Christ,so now the garments of glory and beauty represent the glories ofposition and work in the future, after the new creatures have beenperfected--gone beyond the "Vail." The washing with water seemsto show that though the white garments are laid aside--the bodynow clothed in majesty of power is still pure and that the sins of thepeople for which atonement had been made do not attach to orcontaminate the purity of the Priest. Thus ends this type of thedevelopment of the Priesthood and satisfaction of the World's sins.We tarry to glance at a few verses of this chapter (Lev. 16) notdirectly connected with the narrative.Vs. 17. "There shall be no man in the tabernacle of thecongregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holyplace [Most Holy] until he come out, and have made an atonementfor himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation ofIsrael." This limitation applies only to this special day, for theApostle says--"The priests went always into the first tabernacle (the"Holy") accomplishing the service, but into the second (tabernacle--the "Most Holy,") went the high priest alone, once every year" [onthis "Day of Atonement," which was repeated annually.] Heb. 9:7.The privileges of the Tabernacle are only for those who are priests--members of the body of the Head Priest-- so that whether as now, inthe first of these heavenly conditions (spiritual minded, newcreatures in Christ Jesus); or whether as we hope to be soon, in thesecond or perfected spiritual condition; it will in either or bothcases be because we are in Christ Jesus, new creatures-- no longermen. "For ye are not in the flesh [human], but in the spirit [spiritual,new creatures], if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you." Rom.8:9.Vs. 28. "And he that burneth them [the bullock and goat of sinoffering] shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, andafterward he shall come into the camp." This seems to teach thatthose principally instrumental in reproaching, reviling anddestroying the humanity both of Jesus [bullock] and his "littleflock" [goat], will have no special punishment for it, as they did itignorantly--at the same time accomplishing God's plan. "Father,forgive them, they know not what they do," was a truthful prayerand from one whom the Father heard always. They wash and areclean and come into the camp--i.e., come into the same condition asthe balance of the world, all of whom are sinners, and all of whomare ransomed from Adamic depravity and sin.Vs. 26. "And he that let go the goat for the Scape-goat, shall washhis clothes and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into thecamp." This teaches the same lesson relative to those who shall be
