Answers for life.
Why miss a decibel
of vroom vroom?

Fairy tales:
45 decibels
The purr of a cat. The crunch of grass beneath little feet.
The soothing rhythm of a bedtime story. Every shade of
sound teaches children something new about life. Let’s
make sure they enjoy every decibel of it.
Siemens Explorer. Made for the magic of childhood.
Made for the most
important person
in the world.
Your child.
If your child has been diagnosed
withhearing loss, you are not alone.
Many parents just like you face the
same challenges. Thanks to modern
pediatric hearing instruments like
Siemens Explorer, your child can enjoy
the beauty of sounds in a new way.
Taking action
There are different types and causes of
hearing loss in children. And each case
is unique. Specific tests are necessary to
determine the kind of hearing problem
your child has, as well as the most
effec tive solution. Consult a qualified
Hearing Care Professional for a thorough
evaluation as early as possible, in order
to avoid delays in language acquisition.
Counseling and support
After your child is fitted with hearing
instruments, there may be a period of
adjustment. Part of this process may
include counseling for both the child
and family members. Informal counseling
may also be helpful. Talk to parents of
other children with hearing loss in your
community. These parents face the same
challenges and opportunities as you and
may have suggestions and additional
resources to recommend.
Choosing the right hearing
instruments
If your Hearing Care Professional has
recommended the use of hearing
instruments for your child, consider
all options carefully before you decide.
Siemens offers hearing instruments
that are designed specially for children
and can be customized to meet the
needs of your child. Involve your child
in the decision process and let your
child pick the color.

Tips for
talking to
your child.
• Obtain your child’s attention
before speaking by calling his/her
name or signaling.
• Stand close and keep still when
speaking.
• Face your child to allow him/her
to see your facial expressions and
lip movements.
• Speak slowly in a clear and audible
tone of voice using simple
sentences, and gesture if necessary.
• Check for understanding by
observing his/her facial expression.
• Give your child time to respond
to questions.
• Be patient, positive, encouraging,
and praise generously.
Made for
our future
leaders.
Thinking big about small ears
The future is in your children’s hands.
That’s why we put such great emphasis
on their hearing. Siemens not only offers
dedicated solutions for children, but also
for their different ages.
The new Siemens Explorer 500 M has
all the kid-friendly features of Siemens
Explorer 500 P, but is made for even tinier
ears. So your child has more choice,
comfort and power, no matter how big
her plans, or small his ears.
Exclusively for children
While most pediatric hearing instruments
are simply smaller versions of adult devices,
Siemens Explorer is designed exclusively
for your child’s lifestyle. It’s bundled with
the latest hearing techno logy, and easily
upgradable, so it is the ideal hearing instrument
for infants, toddlers, and teens
alike.
Growing together
Flexible enough to adapt to the con stantly
changing needs of growing children and
sensitive enough to meet the requirements
of infants, Siemens Explorer helps your
child discover the world through all the
stages of childhood.
7

8
Tested by Julia.
Made for
real life.
Siemens Explorer is ready for the
rough and tumble world of childhood.
Equipped with a host of safety
features, it is one of the safest hearing
instruments available for your child.
While its special protective coating repels
dirt and grease, the instrument’s tough
housing protects it from bumps and drops.
Siemens Explorer also features a babysafe
battery door lock to prevent your
child from pulling out the battery. It is
designed so that kids can’t open it, but
parents can do so easily using a small
screwdriver.
Every Siemens Explorer instrument
comes with a pediatric ear hook,
developed specifically for babies and
younger kids. It’s easy to screw on but
difficult for your child to unscrew.
A rugged push button gives fingertip
access to all its program modes, with
a rounded cover that cannot be bitten
or chewed off.
Designed to outlast your child’s curiosity,
Siemens Explorer is well prepared for the
crib, school, and playground.

Made for
discovery.
Just like kids, the Siemens Explorer may
be lacking in size, but not intelligence!
Its kid-proof shell protects a host of
powerful and sophisticated features,
specially designed to help kids learn
about their world.
More power to little people
Little ears need small hearing instruments,
but also lots of power. Siemens Explorer
500 M and 500 P are designed to optimize
the balance between size and power, and
are versatile enough to fit kids of all ages.
Moreover, in cases where hearing loss
increases with age, you don’t have to
worry about finding a new device every
time a change is detected.
Siemens Explorer’s amplification can be
easily adjusted to suit changing hearing
needs.
Better understanding
High frequency speech sounds are important
for speech understanding and clarity.
Clinical studies indicate that hearing
instruments with extended frequency
range may improve speech understanding
and language acquisition of hearingimpaired
children 1 .
So we designed Siemens Explorer with an
extended frequency range, which supports
language acquisition by allowing children
to hear words more distinctly.
in normal-hearing and hearing-impaired children.”
Listening closely to the teacher
Direct Audio Input (DAI) is made for connecting
kids to school. This empowering
technology literally brings a teacher’s or
your voice directly into your child’s little
ears. Fully compatible with virtually all
FM transmitters used in schools, the Direct
Audio Input feature lets kids of all ages
establish dedicated audio connections with
parents, teachers and other care-givers.
In addition, Siemens Explorer’s “Speech
activated FM” feature allows fully automatic
operation of the DAI. When no
FM signal is received, Siemens Explorer
automatically activates the microphone.
But as soon as speech is detected coming
from the FM system, it quickly and automatically
switches to the FM setting.
Made for
delicate
little ears.
They say good things come in small
packages. Now they come in small as
well as smaller. Siemens Explorer 500 M
and 500 P are both designed to fit
snuggly and comfortably behind
children’s ears, yet offer the flexibility
of choice based on a child’s ear size and
hearing requirements. But no matter
which ‘small’ you pick, Siemens Explorer
is packed with the latest child-friendly
hearing technology, designed to make
sound a great joy in n your you child’s life.
Ear hook
Tubing
Earmold
Inserting the hearing instrument
First insert the earmold into your child’s ear,
pushing gently until it is seated firmly. Then lift
the tubing and ear hook over the top of the ear
and adjust it comfortably behind the ear.

500 M
500 P
1 Programmable volume control
The transparent volume control
for full flexibility.
2 Programmable push button
Siemens Explorer’s rugged baby-proof programmable
push button gives fingertip access to all its programs.
3 Robust screw-on ear hook
The pediatric ear hook is easy to screw on, but hard to
unscrew, so babies can’t take it off.
4 Water-resistant nanocoating
This coating helps the instrument retain its sheen even
after extended use.
5 Baby-safe battery door
The battery door lock resists forces of more than 20 N,
which is equivalent to the weight of more than 4.4 lbs
(2 kg) pulling on the batterycompartment. It’s virtually
impossible for infants and toddlers to open.
6 Audio shoe
The audio shoe enables direct audio connection. It is
compatible with most FM systems and provides an
excellent signal-to-noise ratio for learning in school or
at home.
1 2 3 4
1. Open the battery compartment.
2. Lift the audio input cover and close the battery compartment.
3. Place the gold contacts of the audio shoe against the audio
input contacts of Explorer and rotate the audio shoe forward
until it clicks into place.
4. To remove the audio shoe, rotate the audio shoe in
the opposite direction and close the audio input cover of
Explorer.
7 LED visual status indicator
The optional LED (only 500 P) indicates the status of
the instrument. The convenient positioning of the LED
lets you and teachers check the instrument without
removing it from the child’s ear.
Perfect harmony:
Bonding with friends is a big part of
teens’ lives. And as they get more
tech-savvy, there’s no better way to
help them connect than with a gadget
that lets them do it all wirelessly.
Siemens Explorer’s Tek option lets
your child stream audio content, in
true stereo, from mobile phones,
MP3 players, televisions and other
audio sources directly to his or her
hearing instruments.
For even greater convenience, your child
can connect MP3 players and other
portable devices directly to the remote
control, and enjoy wireless connectivity
on the go. Tek gives kids the power to
transform their hearing instruments into
precision-paired high performance stereo
headphones. So they can truly be one
with their world.

Tek gives teens control of all their favorite
audio devices. Wirelessly.
Made for
budding
personalities.
Children’s desires to express their
personalities have as much to do
with what they communicate about
themselves visually as they do vocally.
That’s why it is important to allow
them the fun and freedom to select
and style their hearing instruments
themselves.
Self-expression:
63 decibels
Siemens Explorer comes in 16 playful
