Do not make personal long distance phone callsusing the <strong>University</strong> phone system.Policy on Peer-to-Peer (P2P) File SharingThe <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> is committed to avoiding misuse <strong>of</strong> its computer network, including use<strong>of</strong> the computer network to violate the Copyright Law <strong>of</strong> the United <strong>St</strong>ates. All students, faculty, andstaff should have a basic understanding <strong>of</strong> the Copyright Law. Please refer to employee, faculty andstudent handbooks <strong>for</strong> more in<strong>for</strong>mation on the university copyright policy.Campus computer networks have been popular sources <strong>of</strong> reproduction and distribution <strong>of</strong> illegal music,movies, television shows, pictures, and s<strong>of</strong>tware through the use <strong>of</strong> peer-to-peer (P2) networks. When the<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> receives a <strong>for</strong>mal complaint from a copyright holder, we notify the individualinvolved and pass along any in<strong>for</strong>mation received from the copyright holder to that individual. We do notsupply any in<strong>for</strong>mation to the copyright holder about the individual involved unless a valid subpoena ispresented.Active ef<strong>for</strong>ts are in place to prohibit the use <strong>of</strong> illegal file sharing and the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong>employs Open DNS filtering which blocks access to all known file distributions sites.EMAIL NETIQUETTEEmail can be an easy and convenient way to communicate with faculty and staff. You should rememberthat emails can be easily misinterpreted. In order to insure that your message is sent in a pr<strong>of</strong>essional andthoughtful manner, please consider following proper netiquette and use these guidelines when composingyour email.1. Pro<strong>of</strong> your emails:a. For spellingb. Grammatical accuracyc. Use <strong>of</strong> vocabularyd. Composition2. Don’t email your pr<strong>of</strong>essor asking <strong>for</strong> notes or handouts that you have misplaced. If you missclass or lose your notes, contact your peers. In<strong>for</strong>m a friend in the class that you will needher/him to pick up any handouts and to any changes to the syllabus that you will miss because <strong>of</strong>an absence.3. Don’t email your pr<strong>of</strong>essor asking (or complaining) about your grades. If you want to discuss thegrade on an assignment, make an appointment to speak with your pr<strong>of</strong>essor or contact themduring <strong>of</strong>fice hours. Also, don’t email your pr<strong>of</strong>essors asking if they have finished grading aparticular assignment. Instructors will return papers as soon as they are graded. The same goes<strong>for</strong> final grades. Pr<strong>of</strong>essors are not permitted to in<strong>for</strong>m individual student <strong>of</strong> their final grades viaemail nor should they be expected to explain how a final grade was calculated. That’s thepurpose <strong>of</strong> providing grading polices on the syllabi.4. Think about what you are asking <strong>for</strong> be<strong>for</strong>e emailing. Make sure that the answer to your questionisn’t readily available elsewhere.5. Treat your faculty/staff (and fellow students) with respect, even in email.
