Lock these items in your trunk orremove them.Unlawful and Controlled Substances Policy: It is unlawful <strong>for</strong> any person to sell, manufacture,deliver or possess with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver a controlled substance. Any personviolating the provisions <strong>of</strong> respective state, county or federal law, may be guilty <strong>of</strong> a felony, or insome cases, a misdemeanor <strong>of</strong> the first degree, and may be subject to punishment as provided in themunicipal codes. This punishment can include imprisonment, fines, <strong>for</strong>feiture <strong>of</strong> property, and, insome cases, loss <strong>of</strong> business licenses. It should be noted that under state sentencing guidelines,punishment may become successively more severe <strong>for</strong> second and third violations.USA will impose sanctions on students and/or employees <strong>for</strong> violation <strong>of</strong> the standards <strong>of</strong> conductconsistent with local, state and federal laws. Sanctions may include disciplinary action up to andincluding termination <strong>of</strong> employment, expulsion, and referral <strong>for</strong> prosecution.Physical risks associated with drug abuse can include several central nervous system disorders suchas cerebral anoxia and coma, Guillain-Barre syndrome, meningitis, brain abscess and many otherneurologic complications. Other common physical damage resulting from drug abuse can includeheart failure, hypertension, lung abscess and other pulmonary complications such as pulmonaryemboli, liver damage and both Type A and B hepatitis, musculoskeletal conditions such asosteomyelitis and muscle damage, and even immunologic abnormalities, including the risk <strong>of</strong> AIDSwith injectable drugs.The most obvious health risks associated with drug abuse are psychological. Addiction to thesechemicals can cause drug-induced schizoid behaviors, depression, dependency, and hostile and selfdestructive impulses.Alcohol Policy: USA complies with appropriate state statutes and city ordinances dealing with theconsumption <strong>of</strong> alcoholic beverages on USA premises and at any function in which USA’s name isinvolved. <strong>St</strong>udents and their guests who consume any alcoholic beverage on campus or at an eventsponsored by USA or any entity <strong>of</strong> USA must be at least twenty-one years <strong>of</strong> age and must be able t<strong>of</strong>urnish pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> age at the event. USA and its agents reserve the right to refuse to serve alcoholicbeverages to anyone who is visibly intoxicated or whose behavior, at the sole discretion <strong>of</strong> USA andits agents, warrants the refusal <strong>of</strong> service. Any individual who arrives at a USA function either on or<strong>of</strong>f campus in a visibly intoxicated state may, at the sole discretion <strong>of</strong> USA or its agents, be deniedentrance to the event.Many <strong>of</strong> the same physical risks associated with the use <strong>of</strong> unlawful and controlled substances existwith alcohol abuse, especially cirrhosis <strong>of</strong> the liver and hepatic coma, severe brain damage, andalcoholic epilepsy. As is the case with abuse <strong>of</strong> drugs, psychological problems caused by alcoholabuse include alcohol-induced schizoid behaviors, depression, dependency, and hostile and selfdestructive impulses.Drug and Alcohol Counseling: <strong>St</strong>udents who desire drug and alcohol abuse counseling shouldcontact the Dean or Program Director so that a referral to the appropriate agency may be made.Tobacco Policy: USA is a smoke and tobacco free environment. Smoking is not permitted on any<strong>University</strong> campus.
