Such an event will be considered mandatory as if it were a regularly scheduled class.Absences: In the event <strong>of</strong> a planned absence, the student must speak to each faculty member whosecourse will be missed and request that the absence be excused.Excused Absences include (but may not be limited to):• Illness (after three (3) days must be supported by physician’s note)• Attendance at a pr<strong>of</strong>essional conference approved by the Program Director• Attendance at special services <strong>for</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> the immediate family (spouse, parent, child,sibling; spouse’s parent, child or sibling; child’s spouse, grandparents or grandchildren).Unexcused Absences are considered to be unpr<strong>of</strong>essional behavior. With any unexcused absence, students<strong>for</strong>feit the right to review with the instructor, all or any part <strong>of</strong> the material, including test reviews, coveredduring that class or lab session. A first <strong>of</strong>fense will result in a warning letter issued to the student with a copy<strong>of</strong> that letter placed in the student’s file. A second <strong>of</strong>fense and each subsequent <strong>of</strong>fense will result in a 5%reduction per <strong>of</strong>fense from a final course grade. This represents the <strong>University</strong>’s minimal standard,individual faculty may outline additional consequences in their course syllabi.Tardiness is considered to be unpr<strong>of</strong>essional behavior. It is expected that if a student is tardy <strong>for</strong> anyclass, the student will apologize to the instructor immediately after that class. If a student is tardy twice (2times), the student will receive a warning letter with a copy <strong>of</strong> that letter placed in his/her file. After thesecond time, each subsequent event will result in a 5% reduction per tardiness from a final coursegrade. This represents the <strong>University</strong>’s minimal standard; individual faculty may outline additionalconsequences in their course syllabi.For absences related to clinical fieldwork/internship or practicum classes, please refer to individualprogram sections.RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYSThe <strong>University</strong> shall reasonably accommodate the religious observance, practice, and belief <strong>of</strong> individualstudents with regard to admission, class attendance, and the scheduling <strong>of</strong> examinations and workassignments. For in<strong>for</strong>mation pertaining to your specific program, please see your program’s handbooksection.Accordingly, the following procedures are in effect:• A student who wishes to observe a religious holy day <strong>of</strong> his/her religious faith will notify therespective Program Director who will consider excusing the student from class on this day.• While the student will be held responsible <strong>for</strong> any material covered during the excused absence, the<strong>University</strong> will make reasonable accommodations to assist the student in obtaining any work missed.Major examinations, assignments, and <strong>University</strong> ceremonies will not be scheduled on a majorreligious holy day, if possible.• Any student who feels that he/she has been denied reasonable accommodations because <strong>of</strong> his/herreligious belief or practice may seek redress by notifying, in writing, the Dean <strong>of</strong> the respectivedivision, <strong>of</strong> the nature <strong>of</strong> his/her grievance.• The Dean, or designated representative, shall investigate each occurrence (grievance) and ensure thatappropriate corrective action is taken to ensure compliance with this policy.Flex and MOPA labs will be held on Saturdays and Sundays, thus no exceptions can be made <strong>for</strong>religious observances on weekends.
