Applies to all <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong> <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> <strong>St</strong>udents• The right <strong>of</strong> freedom <strong>of</strong> expression and peaceful assembly as defined by the Constitution <strong>of</strong> theUnited <strong>St</strong>ates and laws <strong>of</strong> the <strong>St</strong>ates <strong>of</strong> Florida and Cali<strong>for</strong>nia.• The right to participate in dialogue during public discussions which provide a diversity <strong>of</strong>opinion.• The right to join organizations <strong>for</strong> educational, political, social, religious, and cultural purposeswithin the limits imposed by their responsibilities to each other and to the student life <strong>of</strong> the<strong>University</strong>.• The right <strong>of</strong> due process.• The right <strong>of</strong> freedom <strong>of</strong> the press and media (newspaper, radio, television, etc.) to publish anddistribute materials will be granted when identified by authorship and sponsorship.STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIESThe <strong>University</strong> expects its students to be responsible <strong>for</strong> helping to maintain a healthy academic climatewhere students can grow and develop as mature individuals with a commitment to lifelong learning.<strong>St</strong>udent responsibilities include:• The responsibility <strong>of</strong> assuming the consequences <strong>of</strong> one's own actions and <strong>of</strong> avoiding conductdetrimental to fellow students and <strong>University</strong> employees.• The responsibility <strong>of</strong> taking the initiative to volunteer <strong>for</strong> service on committees.• The responsibility <strong>for</strong> ensuring that the essential order <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> is maintained.• The responsibility <strong>for</strong> academic work and clinical education requirements.• The responsibility to be fully acquainted with and to adhere to the <strong>University</strong>’s Catalog, <strong>St</strong>udentHandbook, and other published policies and procedures.SPECIFIC STUDENT CONDUCT POLICIESCLASSROOM AND LABORATORY CONDUCT AND STANDARDS<strong>St</strong>udents are expected to arrive to lecture and lab sessions on time and with the appropriate clothing andequipment. The following behaviors are also expected in all lecture and lab session:• No food or drinks (except in spill pro<strong>of</strong> containers) are permitted in the lecture or lab areas. Gumchewing is only allowed during written examinations. No bubbles may be blown.• Please assist the instructors in the pre-and post-lab organization <strong>of</strong> equipment.• <strong>St</strong>udents will operate lab equipment in a safe and respectful manner.• Shoes must be removed while on the lab tables or mats.PROFESSIONAL DRESS AND APPEARANCE CODE<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong> <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> students are highly visible to the public and should besensitive to this fact. The following guidelines will be interpreted and en<strong>for</strong>ced in a manner determined bythe faculty and administration to be in the best interest <strong>of</strong> both the <strong>University</strong> and the pr<strong>of</strong>essions <strong>of</strong>physical therapy, occupational therapy and orthopaedic physician assistants. Further, the <strong>University</strong> isfree to change these guidelines without prior notice to students, although every ef<strong>for</strong>t will be made toprovide such notice.<strong>St</strong>udents MUST abide by the following policies regarding pr<strong>of</strong>essional dress and appearance while on the<strong>University</strong> campus during regular business hours (8AM–5PM) or altered class schedules unless you areparticipating in recreational activities on campus. The <strong>University</strong>’s campus during regular business hoursconsists <strong>of</strong> the entire physical plant, which includes the student parking lot, faculty and staff parking lots,all classrooms, laboratories, lounges, hallways, lobby and library.• <strong>University</strong> ID: The <strong>University</strong> ID MUST be properly exposed above the waist on your frontcollar or on a lanyard at ALL times.• Grooming: <strong>St</strong>udents will portray the well-groomed appearance <strong>of</strong> a responsible healthpr<strong>of</strong>essional. Hair will be clean and neat and in the case <strong>of</strong> both men and women, will not beexcessively long.
