Applies to all <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong> <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> <strong>St</strong>udentsSTUDENT CODE OF CONDUCTAdmittance to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> carries with it an obligation andresponsibility to abide by federal, state and local law, respective county and city ordinances, as well as all<strong>University</strong> rules, regulations and procedures. Admission to the <strong>University</strong> is a privilege, not a right; and isextended to those individuals who meet all admission criteria. All students, faculty and staff <strong>of</strong> the<strong>University</strong> have a responsibility to report violations <strong>of</strong> the <strong>St</strong>udent Code <strong>of</strong> Conduct to the appropriate<strong>of</strong>ficials. As a student you will be asked to read and acknowledge this as part <strong>of</strong> the enrollment process.The following behaviors are to be adhered to at all times while on <strong>University</strong> facilities or when associatedwith the <strong>University</strong> in any manner:• The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> is a smoke and tobacco free environment.• The <strong>University</strong> maintains a drug free policy.• Pr<strong>of</strong>ane language is not acceptable.• <strong>St</strong>udents should not be under the influence <strong>of</strong> any intoxicants.• Firearms are not permitted.• Violence, or the threat <strong>of</strong> violence in any <strong>for</strong>m, is not tolerated.• Sexual or other <strong>for</strong>ms <strong>of</strong> harassment will not be tolerated.• The Internet Acceptable Use Policy must be adhered to at all times.The following behaviors (as mandated by the Distance Education and Training Council) are to be adheredto at all times while enrolled in a course or program, regardless <strong>of</strong> physical location:• Conduct oneself with pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism, courtesy and respect <strong>for</strong> others in all dealings withinstitution staff, faculty and other students.• Present qualifications and background truthfully and accurately <strong>for</strong> admission to the institution.• Observe the institutional policies and rules on submitting work, taking examinations,participating in online discussions and conducting research.• Never turn in work, or present another person’s ideas or scholarship as one’s own.• Never ask <strong>for</strong>, receive, or give unauthorized help on graded assignments, quizzes andexaminations.• Never use outside books or papers that are unauthorized by a course instructor’s assignments orexaminations.• Never divulge the content <strong>of</strong> or answers to quizzes or examinations to fellow students.• Never improperly use, destroy, <strong>for</strong>ge, or alter the institution’s documents, transcripts or otherrecords.• Never divulge one’s online username and password.• Always do one’s best to observe the recommended study schedule <strong>for</strong> program studies.• Always report any violations <strong>of</strong> this Code <strong>of</strong> Conduct to the appropriate institution <strong>of</strong>ficial, andreport any evidence <strong>of</strong> cheating, plagiarism or improper conduct on the part <strong>of</strong> any student <strong>of</strong> theinstitution when there is direct knowledge <strong>of</strong> these activities.The following ethical behaviors are expected <strong>of</strong> all students:<strong>St</strong>udents are expected to conduct themselves in a pr<strong>of</strong>essional manner according to their respectivepr<strong>of</strong>essions code <strong>of</strong> ethics. They should respect the dignity <strong>of</strong> each individual with whom they areassociated. The following considerations are intended to supplement, not replace, any code <strong>of</strong>pr<strong>of</strong>essional conduct that might exist.• Confidentiality <strong>of</strong> a patient's medical/personal history must be fully maintained at all times.• The behavior <strong>of</strong> a patient should be considered in the context <strong>of</strong> the patient's illness and behandled accordingly.• <strong>St</strong>udents should not be upset patients by words, actions or demeanor.• <strong>St</strong>udents should not display a conflict <strong>of</strong> personality or opinion with other clinical personnel inthe presence <strong>of</strong> patients.<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> 29
