Applies to all <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong> <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> <strong>St</strong>udentspractical examination; if the student earns less than 80% on the technical skill per<strong>for</strong>mance,the student will likewise receive an “F” grade <strong>for</strong> the practical examination. In either case,the student must retake the practical examination. The student must meet both safety(100%) and technical skill per<strong>for</strong>mance competencies (80%) to pass the practical re-take.The highest grade awarded <strong>for</strong> the 1 st re-take practical examination will be 75%.• A student who receives an “F” on the retake practical exam may petition the AcademicProgression and Retention Committee (APRC) <strong>for</strong> permission to take a “second” retakepractical examination. The student’s petition must provide written rationale supportinghis/her request <strong>for</strong> a “second” retake examination. See individual program AdministrativeAssistant <strong>for</strong> the Academic Progression and Retention Committee Guidelines to submit aletter requesting exam retakes (written/practical’s/orals). The APRC will review the requestand provide a written response to the Program Director who will render the final decision onthe matter. Should the request <strong>for</strong> a “second” retake not be granted, or if it was granted andthe student receives an “F” on this second retake, the student will receive a “D” or “F” <strong>for</strong>that clinical course. If the student was granted permission <strong>for</strong> the “second” retake and thestudent passes (100% safety, 80% technical skill per<strong>for</strong>mance), the highest grade awardedon the 2 nd retake practical examination is 70%. All practical exams must be completed bythe date grades are due as published on the Academic Calendar (see page 78-81).5. Make-Up Examination Policy• Absences from an examination as a result <strong>of</strong> a medical condition and supported by aphysician's letter will be adjudicated by the faculty member(s) responsible <strong>for</strong> the course.Faculty may either schedule a make-up examination or excuse the student from theexamination without penalty.• Absences from an examination due to non-medical circumstances will also be adjudicatedby the faculty member(s) responsible <strong>for</strong> the course. Faculty may allow a make-upexamination, excuse the student from the exam without penalty, or give the student a zerograde <strong>for</strong> the examination. This zero will be averaged with the grades obtained <strong>for</strong> all otherexaminations <strong>for</strong> this course.GRADING SYSTEMAcademic degree programs use a 4.0 scale to calculate grade point averages (GPA).LETTER GRADE GRADING SCALE QUALITYPOINTSA 90 - 100 4.0B+ 85 - 89 3.5B 80 - 84 3.0C+ 75 - 79 2.5C 70 - 74 2.0D+ 65 - 69 1.5D 60 - 64 1.0F < 60 0.0The entry-level campus based curriculum is divided into Foundational <strong>Sciences</strong> Courses (anatomy,physiology, pathology, biomechanics, neuroscience, and pharmacology); and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Courses (allother course).The written portion <strong>of</strong> all courses (both Foundational and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional) in the entry-level programs usethe same scale <strong>for</strong> grading.The laboratory portions <strong>of</strong> the entry-level pr<strong>of</strong>essional courses are graded on the same scale from aminimum <strong>of</strong> 80% to a maximum <strong>of</strong> 100%.<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> 20
