You plan,implement, and evaluate your own independent study work, with assistance from an appropriate advisor.Except under special circumstances, a directed study course should be completed within 15 weeks. A directed reading course is worth one (1) to four (4) credits.Please access the transitional DPT Section <strong>of</strong> the myUSA portal tDPT tab to download the proposal<strong>for</strong>ms.REGISTERING FOR SEMINARS AND COURSEWORKWhen registering <strong>for</strong> transitional DPT seminars and coursework you may pay by check, money order, orcredit card.You have several options <strong>for</strong> seminar and course registration.• Register Online:Log on to the myUSA portal Online Education tab. From there you will be able to register <strong>for</strong>transitional DPT Coursework or Continuing Education Seminars by selecting the appropriatelink.• Register by phone:If you are registering <strong>for</strong> a transitional DPT Course please call the Registrar’s <strong>of</strong>fice at 1-800-241-1027 ext 1295.If you are registering <strong>for</strong> a seminar or certification please call the Continuing Education <strong>of</strong>fice at1-800-241-1027 ext 1266.• Register by fax:Fax your completed Registration <strong>for</strong>m to 904-810-3819, attention Laura Sanders, AssistantRegistrar.The most important fact: know your registration deadlines! See the Academic Calendar on the myUSAportal <strong>St</strong>udents tab.A few important facts about seminar registration:Try to register three (3) to four (4) months prior to the date <strong>of</strong> the seminar. A deposit <strong>of</strong> $100 at time <strong>of</strong>registration is required to hold your “spot” and the balance will be due 4 weeks prior to the seminar. It isparticularly important to register early <strong>for</strong> the Preparation/Certification Week. There are limited slots eachyear <strong>for</strong> this exam. A 50% non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required <strong>for</strong> certification.Occasionally seminars are cancelled; this decision is usually made three (3) weeks prior to the start <strong>of</strong> theseminar. You will be notified immediately if this has occurred.If you are a MPT or DPT graduate <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong>, because you successfullycompleted S1 and E1 as part <strong>of</strong> your program, you do not have to repeat the seminars. If you are electingto complete a certification track that requires these courses, you will have to complete the DPT academiccredit assignment that accompanies each seminar.Certification fills up fast so you will need to register four (4) to six (6) months prior to takingcertification. Manual Therapy Certification is <strong>of</strong>fered 3-4 times a year on the Florida campus. SportPhysical Therapy and Primary Care are tested at the first certification week <strong>of</strong> the year only and Cranio-<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> 168
