Transitional Doctor <strong>of</strong> Occupational TherapyGOOD ACADEMIC STANDING, ACADEMIC PROGRESSION, RETENTION,WARNING AND PROBATIONThe role <strong>of</strong> the Academic Progression and Retention Committee (APRC), in conjunction with the <strong>St</strong>udentServices Office, is to monitor each student’s academic progress throughout the curriculum. Grades fromeach faculty member are submitted to the APRC at midterm <strong>for</strong> their review. At the end <strong>of</strong> each trimester,grades are submitted to the Registrar. The Registrar will notify students who are placed on probation orare dismissed from the respective academic program <strong>of</strong> their status.1. To remain enrolled in the OTD Program, the student must maintain:• Active <strong>St</strong>atus or Approved Leave <strong>of</strong> Absence <strong>St</strong>atus• Good Academic <strong>St</strong>anding2. Active <strong>St</strong>atus:• A student is in active status if the student:- Registers and begins a course within twelve (12) weeks after <strong>of</strong>ficial acceptance into theprogram, and- Completes a course within six (6) months <strong>of</strong> acceptance into the program- Registers <strong>for</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> five (5) credits each ensuing full calendar year or fewercredits with the written permission <strong>of</strong> the Program Director, and completes those courseswithin the prescribed period, and- Maintains timely and effective communication with the program <strong>of</strong>fice.3. Leave <strong>of</strong> Absence:• An enrolled student who wishes to obtain a leave <strong>of</strong> absence from coursework requirementsmust submit a <strong>for</strong>mal written request to the Program Director <strong>for</strong> review and response.• A maximum <strong>of</strong> 6 months leave <strong>of</strong> absence per request may be granteda. The student’s enrollment expiration date will be extended by the length <strong>of</strong> the approvedleave.• <strong>St</strong>udents should be aware that any leave from the institution may have a financial aid impactand should consult with the Financial Aid Office. In compliance with federal regulations, <strong>for</strong>Federal financial aid purposes, a Leave <strong>of</strong> Absence is treated the same as a withdrawal. If youare considering taking a leave <strong>of</strong> absence, please be aware <strong>of</strong> the following.• In accordance with financial aid regulations, a leave <strong>of</strong> absence cannot exceed 180 days. Ifyour leave <strong>of</strong> absence exceeds 180 days your loan will go into repayment status:a. You must make written request to be granted a leave <strong>of</strong> absence (refer to your studenthandbook <strong>for</strong> procedure).b. You will be required to complete exit counseling prior to beginning an approved leave <strong>of</strong>absencec. It will be necessary to reapply <strong>for</strong> loans upon return to school.d. You must notify the Financial Aid Office upon your return to school, so that your lender,guaranty agency, and National <strong>St</strong>udent Loan Data System (NSLDS) can be notified4. Inactive <strong>St</strong>atus:• A student will be placed on inactive status when failing to complete five (5) credits within a12 month period based on the date <strong>of</strong> admission to the program. The student will receive aletter from the <strong>University</strong> registrar notifying him/her <strong>of</strong> this status change.• When the student completes five (5) credits within one (1) calendar year, he/she will beplaced back on active status (Note: seminars alone do not count toward academic credit andmeeting this requirement).If the student does not complete at least five (5) credits within one (1) year <strong>of</strong> being placed on inactivestatus, he/she will be referred to the Progression Committee <strong>for</strong> possible dismissal from the program. Astudent may be placed on inactive status only once during enrollment in DE programs.
