Doctor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Sciencee. While on probation, does not improve academic per<strong>for</strong>mance to at least a 3.0 GPAwithin the prescribed calendar year.f. Does not complete at least five (5) credit hours within one (1) year after being placedon inactive status.g. Has more than one (1) “W” in any course or three (3) withdraws total during theprogram.h. Fails to comply with the <strong>University</strong> Academic Integrity Policy.i. Fails to complete the program requirements within five (5) years.- Failure to complete the program within the prescribed enrollment period mayresult in dismissal by the Progression Committee.- An extension <strong>of</strong> the program enrollment timeline <strong>for</strong> extenuating circumstancesmay be requested in writing to the Program Director who will present the requestto the Advanced <strong>St</strong>udies Progression Committee <strong>for</strong> review. If the ProgressionCommittee approves the extension, the student will pay the prescribed trimesterextension fee by the due date upon being billed by the accounting department. Ifthe extension fee is delinquent by two (2) weeks, the student may be dismissed.• Upon dismissal, the student will receive a letter (sent certified mail) from the <strong>University</strong>’sRegistrar.8. Right <strong>of</strong> Appeal:• Any student who has been dismissed from the Program may <strong>for</strong>mally appeal this decision inwriting to the Director within ten (10) business days from receipt <strong>of</strong> the notification. If thestudent does not meet the stated deadline, the appeal may not be considered. In extenuatingcircumstances, the student may request an extension from their respective Program Director;however, this request must be made within the above stated deadline.• The appeals letter should address:a. The rationale behind the appeal and why the student believes the appeal is warranted.b. Future circumstances which will permit the student to rectify previous poor academicper<strong>for</strong>mance or deficient course activity.• The Director will notify the Appeals Committee <strong>of</strong> the appeal within two (2) working days.The Appeals Committee meets twice during the trimester; see the <strong>University</strong> academiccalendar <strong>for</strong> dates.• The Director will in<strong>for</strong>m the student, the Appeals Committee, the Progression Committee,and the Registrar in writing <strong>of</strong> his/her decision regarding the appeal at the earliest convenienttime <strong>for</strong> all parties involved.• Should a student not agree to the decision <strong>of</strong> the Appeals Committee, the student has the right<strong>of</strong> an appeal to the President or his/her appointed designee. The appeal must be submitted, inwriting, within five (5) business days to the President. Upon request, the President or his/herdesignee with review pertinent records, at his/her discretion, including a review <strong>of</strong> theprocess to ensure that it was correctly followed, and may meet with the Appeals Committeeand the student. The President or his/her designee will follow the process as established inthis handbook and ensure that the process was followed.• Following the decision <strong>of</strong> the President or his/her designee, the student has the right torequest binding arbitration. This is the only remaining recourse <strong>for</strong> the student. The arbitratorwill be sought from the American Arbitrator Association or equivalent and the cost <strong>of</strong> thisarbitration process will be the student’s responsibility.• Dismissal policies will be implemented as fairly and equitably as possible considering allextenuating circumstances.<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> 128
