Distance/Online EducationDISTANCE/ONLINE EDUCATION POLICY AND PROCEDURESCOURSE SCHEDULESIf you move through your coursework with a cohort group, you will have weekly assignments due, alongwith your fellow classmates. It is your responsibility to check your syllabus <strong>for</strong> due dates or refer to theschedule, under Learning in the course plat<strong>for</strong>m, <strong>for</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation on assignments.If your online course is self-paced, you can complete assignments as you are ready. However, you maybe provided with a timeframe or due date <strong>for</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> the course. It is your responsibility to checkyour syllabus <strong>for</strong> complete in<strong>for</strong>mation on schedules, assignments, and due dates.Course Availability (<strong>for</strong> Distance Learning and Electives):It is your responsibility to verify the availability <strong>of</strong> a course and to make scheduling adjustments if youfind you must take the course during a particular trimester so your progress through your degree programwill not be delayed.ATTENDANCEIf you are enrolled in a course that is purely online (no face-to-face lab associated with it) then you maybe moving through your coursework with a “cohort” group. This means you will have weekly attendanceand assignments due along with your fellow classmates. Typically due dates will be on Friday or Sundaybe<strong>for</strong>e 6 pm. Check your syllabus <strong>for</strong> a schedule <strong>of</strong> due dates or refer to your course map within thecourse plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> specific in<strong>for</strong>mation on each assignment.If your online course is self-paced, you may be provided with a timeframe or due date <strong>for</strong> completion.Again, check your syllabus <strong>for</strong> complete in<strong>for</strong>mation on schedules, assignments and due dates.In the online environment, attendance equates to signing into your course and interacting in somemeaningful way either via an assignment, bulletin board discussion or test. No other student/coursefacilitator contact (e.g., telephone calls, faxes, email) satisfies the attendance requirement. Two weeks <strong>of</strong>unexcused “no-show” activity in a “cohort” group warrants automatic drop in grade to be determined bythe instructor.Course faculty is required to report student absences in an online course. However, it is the prerogative <strong>of</strong>the faculty member to determine if work submitted after the due date will or will not receive any points orcredit.
