Clinical Education<strong>St</strong>udent Clinical Education Site FilesClinical Education Site files are maintained by the Clinical Education Office. Clinical Education Site filesinclude a memorandum <strong>of</strong> understanding or contract between the <strong>University</strong> and the site regardingclinical education as well as pertinent in<strong>for</strong>mation about the site regarding clinical education experiences<strong>for</strong> occupational and physical therapy students. <strong>St</strong>udents may access in<strong>for</strong>mation regarding clinicaleducation sites on the myUSA portal Clin-Ed tab.Clinical Affiliation AssignmentsClinical education is considered a privilege, with each student assigned to a Clinical Education Site thatwill allow that student to achieve both curricular and personal clinical education goals. Any studentplacement at a site in which they have prior work or volunteer experiences MUST receive approval fromthe <strong>University</strong> Clinical Education Committee. Qualified sites <strong>for</strong> clinical education are experiencingincreasing demands on their resources as schools seek clinical sites. Many sites have fluctuations instaffing or other administrative or fiscal restraints, which may require them to withdraw from a scheduledClinical Affiliation on short notice. The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> will make everyef<strong>for</strong>t to find a suitable Clinical Education Site to substitute <strong>for</strong> a canceled experience. It is important thatthe student maintain a flexible attitude during Clinical Affiliation placements to accommodate theseun<strong>for</strong>eseen changes. <strong>St</strong>udents should expect to travel outside <strong>of</strong> their local area <strong>for</strong> full-time clinicalrotations. Hours <strong>of</strong> attendance are determined by the site.Clinical Affiliations <strong>for</strong> OT and PT <strong>St</strong>udents:1. At the initial meeting discussing Internship or Fieldwork Assignment, students will receive thetimeline <strong>for</strong> assignments, a (Clinical Education Request Forms) CERFs Received List and anAll-Sites List. <strong>St</strong>udents will be instructed on how to submit All-Purpose Forms <strong>of</strong> SpecialConsiderations <strong>for</strong> Special Listings and Hardships.a. Timelines will be given to each cohort. The timeline outlines the deadlines that must be metthroughout the assignment process.b. The CERF’s Received Lists shows the current active clinical education sites that haveresponded positively or negatively to our request <strong>for</strong> the corresponding clinical affiliationdates <strong>for</strong> each discipline.c. The All-Sites List is a listing by state <strong>of</strong> all <strong>of</strong> the clinical sites with whom the <strong>University</strong>has a contact.d. <strong>St</strong>udents may request special consideration <strong>for</strong> Hardship. “Hardship” is an extraordinarycircumstance or situation beyond the expected difficulties inherent in doing a clinicalinternship, fieldwork or rotation. All Hardship requests are considered by the ClinicalEducation Committee on a case-by-case basis.e. <strong>St</strong>udents may special list a site if it meets the following criteria: (i) the site is on the AllSites List; and (ii) the site is not on the CERF’s Received List. <strong>St</strong>udents who fail to meetthe designated due date <strong>for</strong> submission <strong>of</strong> All-Purpose Forms, <strong>for</strong>feit their right <strong>for</strong> specialconsideration.2. If current available sites do not meet the special needs <strong>of</strong> select students, they may research thestatus <strong>of</strong> other current sites with which the <strong>University</strong> has contracts.a. The student reviews the All-Sites List.b. The student reviews the CERFs Received List to determine if the facility has responded tothe <strong>University</strong>’s request <strong>for</strong> placements <strong>for</strong> the upcoming year.c. If the facility HAS responded, the Clinical Education Office will not resend or requestadditional placements.d. If the facility HAS NOT responded (i.e., there is no CERF received from the site), thestudent will complete the “CERF Inquiry” Form and submit it to the Clinical EducationOffice <strong>for</strong> follow up.3. The Clinical Education Department has the final decision on all clinical placements. The finaldecision will be based on factors such as student academic/clinical needs and learning styles,clinical education site dynamics and personal issues.4. <strong>St</strong>udent Clinical Education Assignments will be distributed in the classroom or by email.<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Augustine</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> 97
